What do you want from a holiday?

If you love Scotland’s wildlife and landscapes you can go on wildlife tours on land or by boat and maybe see dolphins or orca, or visit the bird centre at Forsinard, or just go outside the cottage to see our wonderful sea-birds. There are also farms you can visit for a family day out.

Like visiting stately homes? Go to Dunrobin Castle or visit the Queen Mother’s home at the Castle of Mey. If you prefer ruined castles, explore Castle Sinclair Girnigoe on foot from the cottage or glimpse Keiss Castle across Sinclair Bay. If you like even more ancient sites, go to the Hill o’ Many Stanes and Camster Cairns and be sure to visit our brochs and find out more at the Broch Centre.

If you want to know how people used to live – maybe your family came from here – visit Whaligoe stepsand the heritage centres at Castletown, Thurso and Wick. The Dunbeath Heritage Centre houses the Sinclair Clan library which used to be here at Noss Head.

Food and drink?
For Whisky, visit Old Pulteney Distillery in Wick, Wolfburn Distillery in Thurso, or drop into Clynelish or Glenmorangie in Sutherland on your way past. Gin lovers should be sure to visit Rock Rose gin in Dunnet Bay. Caithness has treats for foodies too with Caithness Chocolate, Caithness Summer Fruits (there’ll be a pot of their jam in the cottage for you when you arrive), and fine dining at Ackergill Tower and MacKays in Wick.

We love sharing the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage and this amazing place with other people. When we travel, we like freedom to cook and relax and because we opt for self-catering as often as we can, we know what makes a home-from-home. We've made the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage the sort of place where we like to stay with a kitchen that's good for cooking in and cosy places to curl up if the weather is bad and read books, play games or watch DVDs. We love walking and watching the seasons change here at Noss Head and the extraordinary skies of Caithness. We find it a privilege to watch the birds and wildlife here at Noss. it's a joy being able to give other people the chance to experience everything that makes this such a special place.
