Set in Capability Brown gardens with stunning views over the sea and countryside, a stay at the Summerhouse is time out from everyday stress. A glorious eco-glamping like idyll and former artist's retreat, noTV, no Wifi, an eco loo, no shower/bathtub. We recommend a one/two night tech-free natural holiday. Enjoy 100 acres of gardens, sculpture park and our wilding project. Night and day views. If you need more room for more people you can add the Lakehouse.

The space
The studio space has a minimalist bohemian style, while the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows give spellbinding views across the park. We provide two yoga mats, how-tos on mindfulness and breathing, healthy teas, a fridge, a kettle, a hot plate, cold running water, composting loo but no shower/bath. The house is heated and suitable for a one or two night stay.

Guest access
Take walks on the 100 acre estate through the gardens and sculpture park. Around the woodlands and see the rare breeds in the our wilding project.

Other things to note
Always remember to close the gates behind you. We are working farm and that keeps the sheep in their place, the dogs in the garden etc.

Things to do nearby:

Of course we recommend the guided tours of our Wilding project and the permanent sculpture collection. Just let us know if you'd like to go on one.

The blue flag Dawlish Warren Beach is 5 minutes away. Its a beautiful long beach. Life guards and beach shops at the entrance make way to miles of sand dunes. Dartmoor national park begins 15 minutes from us in the other direction. Haldon Forest Park is 5 minutes from us. With fantastic walks, cycle trails, and a Go Ape its a great place to spend the day.
There are many wonderful walking trails running directly past The Orangery. The Mamhead Sensory Trail, for example, leads you to a towering woodland obelisk where you can look out across miles of unspoilt coastal pastures. A little further afield, the granite tors and rolling hills of Dartmoor provide endless options with walks of all lengths. You’ll also find plenty of traditional pubs dotted about the countryside for a bit of refreshment.

Beaches

The Orangery overlooks the Jurassic Coast, a world heritage site famous for its ancient red cliffs, sandy beaches and glistening waters. Whether you want vast golden sands or secluded little coves, you really can take your pick - and we’ll be delighted to tell you about a few secret spots only the locals know.

Watersports

Devon is a haven for watersports enthusiasts and well worth a trip if you enjoy getting out on the water. You’ll often see white sails off the coast at nearby Exmouth, Teignmouth and Dartmouth. There are options for hiring boats at various spots up and down the coast. Alternatively, you can try your hand at windsurfing, kitesurfing, stand up paddleboarding, surfing and sea kayaking, all within a half-hour drive.

My husband and I live on a 100 acre rewilding centre where we hope to inspire guests, visitors to live in an environmentally sound and sustainable way. We have 3 teenage children. I'm never happier than when I'm working on the garden or bringing together the artists, volunteers and wildlife enthusiasts that visit us with good food and drink.

During your stay
If you need help with anything or have any questions we are around to help. Everyone is happy to give directions or advice. On the rare chance that no one is about send us a text as well as a call. The signal is great everywhere except on one side of the house behind the dome and out on the roads it can be iffy. If I'm there I'll get a text sooner then a call. I'll get back as soon as I'm in range again.
