My partner and I loved our 5-night stay at Elly/Rita's place. First, the location is perfect: right next to the Torre di San Niccolo at the bottom of the hill paths up to the Piazzale Michelangelo. It's in a lovely, close-in Oltrarno neighborhood, just 1 block off the River Arno, a 10 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio, just east of the Ponte alle Grazie bridge. There's a lively mix of enotecas, restaurants, bars, and artisans' shops just out the front door, and it's a super easy walk across the river to all the sights of old Florence -- Uffizi, Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Croce, etc. On the Oltrarno side, we easily walked to the Pitti Palace, the Boboli and Bardini Gardens, up to Piazzale Michelangelo, and to San Miniato. The apartment is a walk-up on the 4th floor (or "3rd floor" as Europeans would have it) of an older building. A lovely front room faces onto the Via di San Niccolo; the back of the apartment has a tiny terrace with a garden table, just off the kitchen, facing onto an interior courtyard. There is 1 real bedroom with its own full bath. There is a separate 2nd full bath off the main hall. The apartment truly feels like the home of an artistic, well-traveled woman: lots of art and ceramics from around the world, shelves full of books. Because it's truly a lived-in home, it's very well "stocked" with kitchen supplies, extra linens, etc. One note: except for the front room (pictured), the apartment is quite dark, especially the bedroom, which has no real window to the outside. That wasn't a problem, though; we spent very little time there during the day because of all there was to see in Florence. At nights, we just flipped on all the lights. The bed was very comfortable. Elly, who manages the property for its owner Rita, was very . responsive and flexible. We were a little uncertain about our arrival schedule until the day before arriving. Still, Elly met us at the front door on our first day with keys in hand, WiFi instructions, and lots of great suggestions for places to go to happy hour and to eat in the Oltrarno neighborhood. We would highly recommend this "Santa Croce and Old Bridge" apartment to anyone who wants immediate access to the sights of Florence in a homey environment in a lovely, walkable, reasonably quiet neighborhood.

Many thanks to Elly...a great host...quick replies, very accomodating and helpful. How lovely to be able to stay in this a fantastic location; quiet but within a comfortable walk to the Uffizzi and Duomo. Nearby San Miniato al Monte above, is a wonder...with an amazing panorama of the city. It was pleasant to be on the third floor and the stairs were not a problem for us. We were all really comfortable, slept really well, had all the facilities that we needed (Having two bathrooms is great!) and found it lovely, clean and homely. Highly recommended for those who will appreciate its comfortable character (accurately described and reflected in the images.) A gem!

What a gem! We loved our stay at Elly's apartment in Oltrorno! We loved being across the river, away from the hordes of tourists. We spent a lot of our time exploring the neighborhoods nearby. Elly was super helpful and friendly. The kitchen was well equipped and cooking was easy because there were things like spices and oils to add to our dishes. We also took Elly's advice and ate at some of the nearby, less touristy places. We liked Negroni nearby as well as Pop pub, in Santo Spirito. Her advice is spot on. The apartment was filled with charm and the wi-fi was great (in the front room). The bed in the center room was super comfy, but our kids complained about the pull out bed they shared. Lumpy is what I heard. There is a wonderful charm about the place and the two bathrooms makes it very convenient. Clean and charming and off the beaten track. I would highly recommend!

The property at Santa Croce is in a lovely neighborhood about a 15 min stroll to the Ponte Vecchio, 10 min to Uffuzi and very close to the Piazzale Michelangelo. It is a good 30 min from the train station. Our check in went without a hitch. Elly met us at the property right on time, gave us a complete tour and some great recommendations. The property itself is a comfortable 2 bedroom, 2 bath with a sitting area and kitchen. There is a small patio for coffee. The apartment is dark, but that works to your advantage as there is no AC. The rooms were just fine with only fans. It is a fair climb to get to the apartment which is on the fourth floor without an elevator. This is pretty standard for Italy. We did have a little problem with getting hot water, but this was fixed very promptly. All in all, it worked quite well for our family of four and I would recommend it. You can't appreciate a good host enough.

Very charming home in a quiet, non-touristy location. Although not close to a main train station, it wasn't difficult to walk and see the main sights of Florence (very close to Uffizi and within steps of Michelangelo Piazza). We loved the apartment and with its location, we felt like locals. Elly was a great host and really flexible with our schedule. She greeted us and gave us lots of helpful information when we arrived. Would highly recommend!

The host Elly and the actual owner of the property were both lovely. The space is as it appears though much darker than the pictures illustrate. I slept very well in the main bedroom because it was so dark you had no idea what time of day it was. It's a bit misleading that to say that there are two bedrooms. The study is quite large and a lovely room but it's a fold out couch and my friend said it was very uncomfortable. I think if they are going to market this as a two bedroom the second room should have an actual bed. We both very much loved the location and were happy we chose to stay on this side of the river. It gives you more of a flavor for what it's like to be a local in Florence-- away from the madness of the tourism and surrounded by awesome little galleries and cafes. It's my fault that I must have missed the fine print about check in time--- if you arrive after a certain hour it's an extra 30 euros. Our flight got us in to florence late so upon arrival we had to pay that extra 30 euro. Seemed high to us. Nonna the owner is adorable and kindly left a bottle of wine. All in all we were content but there were a couple of down sides to this stay.

Response from Elly:
Thank you for your review. WHAT IT S WRITTEN IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT. Anyway about the 2 bedrooms, I thought I had made a mistake in the description (although in the photos it is clear that there are 2 bedrooms but only one) instead I read that the description is correct: it's written Studio with a sofa bed and not second bedroom! Also about the late arrival (you arrived at 11:30 pm ) is written in the booking confirmation , in the rules of the house and in the manual that there is an extra to pay. I have informed immediately about it when you has informed me of your arrival time . IT wasn't a surprice for you. Although very late , I tried to do a good check in explaining everything about the house and Florence (restaurants..) One important thing for next time maybe confirmed if it is possible to do a check in very late. The apartament is not a recetpion opens 24 hours and especially if you don't want to sleep ( rightly with your friend ) warned before arriving without creating surprises of the night where he asked to separates sleep ( I could not know you were friends, The reservation says only 2people ) The important thing is to learn how to travel ..good luck

Lovely, quaint & homey feeling and very spacious. Elly's sister greeted us on arrival and made us feel very welcome. Our favourite place during our tour of Venice, Rome & Florence. Plus the bed was very comfortable!
