We really enjoyed our stay here! Our party included a group of friends celebrating the new year, and we had a great time. Some highlights: waking up to a beautiful sunrise with a view of horses and farmhouses; eating a nice meal in the sunroom; sitting around a roaring fire; wandering in the woods; and, finally, looking at the stars. The house was well stocked with towels, blankets, firewood and cookware, as well as items like tea/salt and pepper, which was greatly appreciated. We really loved our time here. Can't wait to return!

This is a beautiful area, but unfortunately there are two serious inaccuracies in the listing that affected our stay: 1) The most severe inaccuracy is that the house is in no way wheelchair accessible, despite what the listing says and what the host told me in an email before we booked. Our son is in a wheelchair, so this had a huge effect on our stay. To enter the house from the road (you park on a grass pull-off off the road) requires climbing 4 cement steps past a chain-link fence gate. The kitchen door that supposedly opens out into the yard still has enough of a step to make it impossible for our son to use without help. The house itself is a 1799 farmhouse, so it understandably has narrow doorways and thresholds of varying heights. Again, this makes it not wheelchair accessible. 2) The second inaccuracy is that the listing states that the house has 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths--we found 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. When I asked the owner about this afterward, she said that there is an airstream trailer on the property available to rent, which would add another bedroom and bath. That makes 4 bedrooms--why does the listing say 5 bedrooms and never mentions the trailer option? Families with small children should note that 1 of the bedrooms and baths is up a separate set of stairs and does not connect to the others. Beyond these serious issues, we still managed to have a nice time. The countryside is beautiful and the animals were such fun for the kids. We were surprised to see a goat on the porch the first morning! The caretaker's husband brought a horse and alpaca right up to the door for the kids to see. The house itself was not as nice as I'd hoped, but very clean. The chain link gate and cement steps were not the gracious entry I was expecting. I called the caretaker to be sure that the dirt pull-off was where we were supposed to park and the gate was the only entrance. There is a charming dining room, working fireplaces and--so great for families--lots of games and toys for the kids. The view out our bedroom window was beautiful rolling hills. However, the furniture is tired and the kitchen is very small and in need of an update. The bathrooms are also showing their age. The front porch had items stored under a tarp over half of it. The host was very responsive and helpful with suggestions of activities for the kids. The caretaker also provided helpful information and restaurant recommendations, and was readily available by phone. We had lunch and dinner at restaurants suggested by her and they were perfect for our family. There were fresh eggs that we cooked for breakfast. We also went to the Staunton Frontier Culture museum, which they both recommended. It is such a great place--I highly recommend it for anyone coming to the area.

We really enjoyed our stay at the farm. The house was surrounded by beautiful farm land and woods which offered the perfect combination of relaxation and activity. D was great about answering any questions we had before arriving and the caretaker had everything set for our arrival, checking in via text throughout the long weekend to see if we needed anything additional. The pool and fire pit were highlights as well as the large front porch where we spent most evenings. Three private bedrooms meant that our group of 6 was accommodated with room to spare. The large dining room made for many enjoyable meals spent together. The kitchen met our needs and we grilled for most dinners but I would suggest planning for somewhat limited fridge space. Overall the farm provided a great weekend getaway and the whole group (dogs included) had a wonderful time!

What a fantastic weekend getaway! Don't think twice about renting out this Shenandoah Valley gem - it's everything that's advertised and more. With friendly farm animals, plenty of open space, and a heavenly front porch that gets the first morning light, this is a great place to getaway to for a relaxing stay. To top it off, after packing up to head out, our car battery was dead and the friendly caretaker was there within 20 minutes to give us a jump. Will definitely stay again if able.
