Where you’ll be

Thomasburg, Ontario, Canada

The Vanderwater Conservation area and The Moira River is less then a 5 min walk from our home.
This Conservation area offers an incredible nature experience, boasting over 15 km of walking, horseback riding or biking trails through the Pine, Cedar and Coniferous forests of the Canadian Shield. The Glaciers of the many years ago have left their evidence everywhere with paths of boulders and rocks. There are plenty of private picnicking sites along The Moira River. The biggest attraction are the rapids. During spring run off when water levels are high, its a great place to Kayak. As the season moves on and water levels drop, the rapids appear. They are flat rock rapids and act as natures water play ground for swimming. Whether sitting under the many small water falls, relaxing on your favorite rock with a good book or meditating to the sounds of the rapids or just walking through them to the other side of the river, it's all enjoyable. It truly is a work of art by Mother Nature. People come from all around every year in the late summer to early fall to create their own " In-Ish-Nooks" on the rapid shelves. By the end of the season these rock monuments are everywhere to be seen on the rapids.........but only for a short time. The high and fast moving icy spring waters topple them over....only to be built again the following year. It leaves one to wonder about.... who is more persistent, Man or Nature?
