The Village of the Camellias

The mystery of the medieval tower, the little hidden courtyards, ancient portals, noble villas, the camellia trees that dot every corner of the country: these, and many others, to find out the reasons, strictly on foot, immersed in nature, Pieve and St. Andrew's task, along with "Village of the Camellias".

Not only unquestioned natural attractions recall every year, especially for the exhibition Ancient Camellias of Lucca, the pride of the village, many visitors from all over the world, but also the history, the architecture and the many legends about the place. Among gardens antique flavor, fountains, wash houses and mills it reaches the tower, located in the street, from which front wall protrudes a basket of wrought iron. It hung, it is said, the heads of the condemned. The mystery of the tower persists today. Most argue that this is a signal tower was built by the terrible Castruccio Castracani, lord of Lucca in the early fourteenth century: from the top, they say, were leaving messages "fire" into the valley and towards the city not far. Following is the village church, which stands on a high rocky, simple and impressive. Under it, a thick hedge of centenary camellias frames the cultivation of Camellia sinensis L., the tea plant, created by Guido Cattolica. An experiment this, first in Italy, which has yielded very encouraging results bringing the tea produced in St. Andrew's task to compete in international tastings.
