Welcome to Batbox at Lazybed Accommodation. A bespoke, one bedroom, self-contained cabin for up to two people. Privately situated on our three acre woodland croft in Inverkirkaig. Two minute walk to the beach. A haven for nature lovers. Surrounded by stunning scenery with sea and mountain views. Off the beaten track, equally perfect for touring the Highlands. WiFi is available on site. There is a good signal on the Batbox path and in the car park, not inside the cabin.

The space
Similar to Lazybed (our other cabin) in concept, the Batbox is a high specification studio space with an interior of 26sqm plus a generous sized covered deck. Built utilising 100% renewable Scottish timber. The high sloping roof and wonderful bright aspect create a roomy, luxurious space. Positioned higher up and further back on the croft with two metre high windows facing SSW, the cabin and deck area offer a fantastic view of Cul Mor, Inverkirkaig’s tranquil sea loch and the wonderfully remote peninsular of Rubha na Breige.

Sheep’s wool insulates the property throughout whilst hot water is powered by a mini, Norwegian-manufactured, boiler system. The main room has a Morso Squirrel wood-burning stove keeping the cabin lovely and warm for those occasions when the weather turns inclement.

The accommodation consists of a lounge, well equipped / clutter free mini kitchen (with mini oven and two ring hob), a separate cosy double bedroom, a wet room / shower room with toilet and wash hand basin.

WiFi is available on site. See details under the heading ‘Other details to note’.

We fenced our three acre croft purposely to re-wild. It is quickly turning into a woodland attracting many birds, insects and wildlife. It has been a joy to see it come to life over the years.

Why the name Batbox?
Well apart from our love for Common Pipistrelle Bats (and our gratitude they enjoy the odd midge for dinner!) the new cabin's shape and its overhanging roof has more than a passing resemblance to (you've guessed it) a bat box! On summer evenings you may well see the local bats sweep back and forth in front of the cabin or hear the Tawny Owls that call Inverkirkaig their home. There are boxes hidden in the adjacent trees.

There is very little air pollution and practically no light pollution in 'Kirkaig. On a clear night you may get heady at the plethora of stars, walk by the light of the full moon, catch a shooting star or perhaps the Aurora Borealis!

Guest access
Batbox is privately located on the east side of our bungalow and about 65 metres from Lazybed and the car park, with wonderful views to Cul Mor and Inverkirkaig Bay. The beach is a short walk. Access to the cabin is via an undulating footpath through our private woodland garden.

Other things to note
WiFi is available on site. There is a good signal on the Batbox path and in the car park, not inside the cabin. WiFi reaches inside Lazybed our other cabin.

Electric vehicle charge point on site.

We provide a clothes washing service (as there is no washing machine in the cabin) this means one of us will wash your laundry (please limit to 1 load) for a small fee. We do not have a dryer, so allow 24 hours (approximately) for clothes to dry naturally.

There is no TV reception, but there is a flat screen television with DVD player and an eclectic library of films to choose from.

The complimentary welcome pack includes a refreshing drink and treat. Essentials such as tea including herbal, fresh ground coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, all this should last a couple of days. Staying for 4 nights or more? enjoy a home baked, organic ‘Highland’ focaccia, at your request.

We also provide an initial basket of 'super-dry' logs (extra baskets are for sale).

Neighbourhood highlights

The Batbox is located on the owner's croft in Inverkirkaig, a lovely coastal settlement, a few miles south of Lochinver and about 40 miles north of Ullapool. This area of the magnificent North West Highlands is known as Assynt, a geographically and geologically remarkable landscape. Many of Scotland’s most individual and charismatic mountains are close by and the stunning coastline stretches north to the white sandy beaches of Achmelvich, Oldshoremore and Sandwood Bay and south to the wild, rocky coves and shell sands of Wester Ross. A multitude of trout-filled lochs cover the hinterland and the beautiful River Kirkaig, with its excellent salmon fishing and waterfall path, is only 10 minutes walk from the door. Continue beyond the falls passing Fionn Loch and eventually reach the summit of Suilven, northern Scotland’s most iconic peak. Walking, kayaking, fishing or simply relaxing, this beautiful area of Scotland has it all.

My wife and I live in the bungalow near Lazybed and Batbox. We moved to Inverkirkaig in 2008, started Lazybed Accomm 13 years ago and absolutely love our life here in Assynt. You will probably see us out and about running on the 'wee' road more often than not. We enjoy a good chat and are here for our guests if you need us, but will not disturb once we've welcomed you as your peace and privacy is important to us.
