About this listing

I own a historic home on a beautiful, oak-canopied street in the up-and-coming Starland / Thomas Square area south of Forsyth Park. Downtown is a short drive (or Uber ride), but there's plenty to do within walking distance as well!

The space

My private downstairs unit is a wonderful place to use as a home base while seeing Savannah. It contains a full kitchen, bath, bedroom, and TV room. There is also a small back porch looking out onto the rear yard, with access to a utility room with washer and dryer. It shares a foyer and front porch with the upstairs unit where I live.

If the apartment is booked during your intended stay, please inquire about my spare upstairs bedroom. I do not keep it listed at all times, but I will consider booking it.

In addition to quick access to the main Historic District, there are several cool spots to visit within my own up-and-coming part of town. Savannah's most awesome cafe, Foxy Loxy, is just a 5 minute walk away on Bull Street. The Starland District is also on the Bull Street corridor, a bit further south. Blowin' Smoke Cantina is a BBQ/Mexican fusion joint with amazing tacos (fish, pulled pork, etc) and more, just 3 blocks away (less than 5 minutes walk) and live music many nights. And then there is Green Truck Pub. Oh, Green Truck Pub - all locally sourced ingredients. Awesome salads, burgers, and a great beer selection. They even make their own ketchup! But don't take my word for it. Look up the recent New York Times profile titled "An Incubator for Creativity in Savannah, GA".

Guest access

Guests will have access to the entire downstairs unit, aside from a locked front room that I use as an owner's closet. Parking is also available behind the house, accessed from the alley. Bikes are available as well. I live in a separate upstairs unit, containing a spare bedroom with its own Airbnb listing titled "Colorful Bedroom near Thomas Square".

Interaction with guests

My degree of interaction with my guests is up to them! I am happy to provide advice on what to see and do. I have had several "tours of duty" in Savannah (as one friend phrased it in relation to herself). In my first, I worked in the nightlife industry downtown. In my second, I worked for SCAD as an international admission representative. Now in my third, having returned to Savannah after attaining two masters degrees from Georgia Tech, I am a freelance urban designer and entrepreneur. So, I have experienced Savannah from a variety of POVs, and I'm happy to share the insights (and stories) this has granted me. I typically work from home (or nearby cafes), so I will probably be in and out of the house, unless I'm out of town on a freelance contract somewhere else.

Other things to note

Off-street parking is provided behind the house, accessed from the alley.

Jason’s downstairs apartment was the perfect place for me to stay during my recent rotation at Memorial Medical Center. It’s fully equipped with everything that you need for day-to-day living, and even has its own washer and dryer in a utility room attached to the back porch. The kitchen is well stocked too, which was good since I cooked in quite a bit. The off-street parking behind the house was very convenient and well lit at night, and the downstairs unit has its own back entry just a few feet away, once inside the gate. The apartment was in a great location, very close to Forsyth and Daffin Parks and had many great restaurants within walking distance. Also, if there had been any problems, it was nice to know that Jason was right upstairs, and typically there most of the time since he works from home (or close by). Speaking of Jason, he invited me to join him for team trivia in downtown Savannah several times, but I typically had to say no due to my schedule. However, I did make it out one night to a special trivia night held at “Fort Roy” (a friend’s house) across the river. I met tons of local characters and tried various Southern delicacies such as fried okra. Ha. That might have been the best part of staying in an Airbnb unit during my rotation – the chance to really get a feel for Savannah life. I’ve been interviewing for residencies all over the place, including Savannah, and now I definitely feel like I can make an informed choice, about Savannah at least.

We actually ended up staying in the upstairs bedroom all three nights during our stay. See review for Colorful Bedroom near Thomas Square.

We arrived at what I thought was the correct address, but wasn't and Jason called to direct me to the right place. Once we were there, he was the perfect host, very pleasant and accommodating. The place was great, and provided everything we needed.

Jason's place was perfect for a weekend getaway and he was a great host. Upon our arrival he gave us dining and bar recommendations and told us the best routes to take if and when we decided to use the bikes he provided. The apartment was a great size for two guests and there were many dining options in the vicinity as well. Kitchen was well equipped and the bed was very comfortable. I would definitely recommend staying here and I will be back soon!

Great location and well equipped apartment. Really glad we stayed there since we were a short walk away from Downtown (30 mins), but close to a lot of local spots. Cycling around Savannah is the best way to explore the city so the bikes were great. Next time we're back in Savannah we'll be staying at Jason's place.

This was a really good choice for my boyfriend and I for the weekend. This small apartment is in a good location, other than the fact it is next to a train line. We rode the bikes into town one afternoon and had a blast! We only met Jason once on the second day we were there but we had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again.

Jason's place met our needs in every way. HIs place is well equipped, has a comfortable bed and bikes, lots and lots of bikes. Jason was knowledgeable about Savannah and willing to help us. We had a great time and we would consider renting again if we return to Savannah.

Jason User ProfileJason is a superhost.

I'm a freelance designer (I have masters degrees in city planning and urban design), writer, and entrepreneur in Savannah, Georgia. I love this city and enjoy helping others to get to know it. I've done a ton of travelling in the past (about 70 countries by my count) but I've decided to put my roots down here, so that should say something about how great Savannah is!

I am now a scarred veteran of the wars over local regulation of short-term rentals, and I continue to fight (and actually hope to resolve things at the state level). So, due to local regulations that came into effect at the beginning of 2015, I can no longer freely use all of my home (an up/down duplex) as I see fit. However, I can still rent my extra upstairs bedroom. So, take a look and let me know if you'd like to be my temporary roommate. Cheers!
