About this listing

This historic property located on Cerro Alegre, was fully renovated in 2006 and continues in the hands of direct descendants of the family. The first owner, an immigrant from Sardinia, Italy was declared illustrious son of the city of Valparaiso.

The space

This family house was built in English style in 1920. Its privileged location, in the center of Valparaiso's historic neighborhoods, provides the opportunity to walk to museums, art galleries, restaurants and the city center. This apartment has no direct view over the bay, but a wonderful view of the hills. If you are looking for a place with a panoramic view, we suggest you consider our second apartment located in this same house. Look for the listing "Historic House with Great View".

Guest access

Through the main entrance to the house, you access the apartment on the 2nd floor by stairs or elevator. The guests will have access to private house gardens and parking space. Upon request, you can get access to the family living room.

Interaction with guests

Upon arrival, the doorman (Spanish only) will hand over the keys and show the guests to the apartment. Thereafter, a friendly and knowledgeable local host (Spanish and English) will meet the guest and be available to take care of any needs and help throughout the stay. The door man is at the property 24/7. If necessary, Bruno and Carmen are also available on request.

Other things to note

The second bed is a queen size Pull-out sofa in the main Living-room, where 2 additional guests can sleep (for a total of 4 guests). Breakfast and many other additional services (live cooking, restaurant reservations, museum tickets, laundry, city tours, boat tours, emergency services, etc.) can be arranged through the local host. None of these extra services are included in the airbnb rate. Fees for extra services should be settled directly with the local host.

An upscale apartment in a perfect location....quiet, safe, close to restaurants, markets, attractions, transportation and popular tourist sites. We were able to walk all over from the apt. and there was a funicular steps away. We had a car, and never used it here, but we were able to park it in the safest possible place next to the house. The apt. Itself was perfect for our 3 day stay and had everything we needed. The complementary starter basket of foodstuffs was appreciated and while we did not meet the owner, his representatives we've very helpful. Highly recommended....you can find cheaper stays but nothing for a couple that will give you better value.

The apartment is within an upscale house in a quiet street of Valparaiso. The apartment is nicely decorated, with full equipment. The stay was enjoyable and the apartment was really confortable.

Great home in the hills above Valpo Possibly the best location only a short distance and easy walk from the square, but in amongst Valpo's narrow cobblestone streets and old houses The home is a stately mansion still owned by the original family who live nearby, but has been converted into accomodation. Lovely views of the port/harbour from terrace and also of the colourful houses up the hill above town from our accomodation We were met by the live in caretaker/gatekeeper who was very helpful despite our pitiful Spanish The owner called on us to introduce himself and his son and gave us wine and olive oil. Embarrassingly we were given breakfast as well. Hard to criticise this place.

Bruno and Carmen were incredible hosts. The place was exactly as pictured and walking distance to everything. We were greeted with love and very well taken care of during our stay. Thank you, Bruno, Carmen, & family!

Bruno And Carmen User ProfileBruno And Carmen is a superhost.

Bruno, a surgeon, was born and raised in Valparaiso. Carmen was born and raised in Santiago. They live in Viña del Mar, just minutes away from Valparaiso, and have 5 children and 10 grandchildren. They love classic music, literature and travelling around the world. In 2006, inspired by his family tradition, Bruno decided to make an old dream come true: to produce olive oil, as it had been done by his great-grandfather in the far-away land of Itiri (Sardinia, Italy). You can learn more about this project by visiting . Bruno and Carmen are both very excited about being able to offer their historic house to guests visiting the beautiful port-city of Valparaiso.
