This is the front of the Ivy covered cottage, People always tell me that the ivy will destroy the building, but it's been there for over a hundred years, so I'm not changing it. Plus, I love it.You can see that this is a bright and cheerful room with the Southern light filtering through the 100 year old original glass panes.

The space

This charming cottage was once the town barber shop and is over 100 years old. It's a bright and sunny room with light filtering through the original paned glass windows. The kitchen is small but efficient and outfitted with everything you would need to prepare a meal. The bathroom is newly renovated. The queen size bed is made up in high thread count linens and the Ralph Lauren living room furniture with feather & down cushions makes a cozy extra bed.
Park (free) and walk to three highly rated restaurants, including the well known Happy Creek Coffee and bike shop a half a block walk. Spend time in our own shops and galleries or a 10 minute drive will take you to Middleburg or a number of picturesque wineries for tastings. Bring your bikes to roll down country roads or take a nice trail ride at Marriott Ranch. Hike at Sky Meadow in nearby Paris Virginia. Several golf courses within 20 minutes.

The Plains was recently voted "Best Town to Visit" by Blue Ridge Travel and is home to the world famous "Gold Cup Steeple Chase". It's only an hour from DC and one mile off of I-66 but it's a whole new world from the crowds, stress and traffic.

Wonderful place to stay in the area, especially being dog friendly. The Plains is a really cute town and central to wineries/breweries. Definitely recommend staying here!

We loved staying in The Plains. It was such a cute little town and Super close to Middleburg and to the wineries that we wanted to visit. Peyton was a good hostess, however, our stay was changed at the last minute to another unit that Peyton had. It was still VERY cute and cle…

So sorry for the unavoidable hiccup in the reservation. It puts a host in a difficult situation when a guest isn't able to leave due to illness or sudden changes in circumstances. I'm glad you were flexible to stay in my other cottage and that it was available. Please come again and as I said privately, I would like to offer you a discount on another stay when you can make it out to our neck of the woods again. Best, Peyton

Thanks for the great review Claudia! We love our little town and the freedom to walk everywhere and be welcomed with our dogs. I forgot to mention that your sweet Cavalier was also a perfect guest! Let us know when you’re back in the area for a horse show with all your Cavaliers, we would love to meet you for a Cav-fest!

Make sure when you book with arbnb and with the owner of the house or room, that you are getting what you booked. I booked quite a while ago and was very disappointed that the owner didn't make sure that we were in the right place.

Response from Peyton:
Hi Camille, Again, I am very sorry about the mix up of the cottage that you rented. I've been a host for 8 years and this is the first time that this has happened. In my defense, since you were here for a two night stay, I did offer to move you to the original booking the following morning and you declined. As far as the windows are concerned, they do not open because the building is over a 100 years old and have the original (wavy) glass that is quite fragile but beautiful if you love old houses. They have been insulated with a second pane of glass that is not removable and that is why they can't be opened. The cottage has an air conditioner that has a fresh air exchange and is also on a quiet side street so sometimes when the weather is nice, guests will simply leave the door open to enjoy the fresh air. I am very particular about the cleanliness of my cottages, so I'm not sure about the complaint of dust. Again, it's a very old building and no matter how much you clean and dust and paint, it just looks old. So all I can do is apologize. As far as not answering your texts, I never received a text from you. One of the things that I pride myself on as a "superhost" is to respond as quickly as possible to the needs of my guests and my many 4 and 5 star reviews reflect this. I sorry that your stay wasn't acceptable and I would like to offer you a free night with a two night stay in the cottage that you originally booked. Best, Peyton Slade (Website hidden by Airbnb)
