I have lived in Pella Iowa most of my life. I started in real estate in 1977 with my husband Gene Van Wyk who at that time was also a teacher in New Sharon, Iowa. He later became the guidance counselor at Pella Christian High. I continued on as a realtor in Pella and opened my own office called Home Realty Inc. in 1995. My husband passed away in 1998 of cancer. I stayed in Real Estate and have been purchasing older homes and renting them to my clients for temporary housing. In 2018, I started Airbnb to help serve visitors to our community. I started with the restoration of the original Stegman store in Pella which I purchased from the Historic Trust. I have remarried to Duane Van Maanen who is a retired carpenter. We have been doing a bit more traveling since my daughter has taken over the management of Home Realty. If you go to the (Website hidden by Airbnb) website you will still see my name as Mary Van Wyk as I kept it for business purposes.
I also love to do flower gardening and garage sales to collect antiques. My husband is very social and likes to visit, however I like to visit but I am on the go and like to be out and about to see things. We work together on our different ambitions.
