The Neuk o' the Mill is renovated farm building, attached to a 19th century farmhouse and Mill situated on the outskirts of Biggar. It is in a very peaceful spot but being just 30 miles from Edinburgh and 35 from Glasgow, it is an ideal base for exploring the area. Full of character with many original features, there is accommodation over two floors, with seating outside where you can enjoy watching the chickens strut their stuff.

The space
Coming into the cottage through your own front door you will find an upside down house, with the kingsized bedroom and bathroom downstairs. A wonderfully powerful shower, white fluffy towels, Faith in Nature products and Egyptian cotton bedding are all part of the Neuk experience. Upstairs, the spacious kitchen dining room is well-equipped, including a Lavazza coffee machine and milk frother, and the cosy living room has a Smart TV and a variety of books and games.

If you prefer your own privacy, we totally understand, and the Neuk is totally private. You can let yourself in and explore the cottage for yourself. In fact, the only contact you need to have with your hosts is the handing over of the morning breakfast. If you prefer to meet us, and have a chat, that is absolutely fine - this is your holiday and we want you to enjoy it your way.

Set in 6 acres, and away from major roads, we share this tranquil spot with our chickens, cats and dog, Alfie, plus deers, squirrels, hares, badgers, foxes and pheasants.

As our ethos is to make our lives as eco-friendly and sustainable as possible, all of our cleaning products are vegan and you will find no feather, leather or wool in the the cottage. We have installed solar panels and a battery, and we also offer charging for guests with electric cars, from the domestic supply.

The cottage is ideal for vegans and the vegan curious as the main house rule is that guests refrain from bringing any non-vegan food items into the cottage. A vegan welcome basket is provided and a plant-based breakfast will be brought to you in a basket to enjoy in the privacy of your own kitchen. We make our own bread and our granola recipe is a closely-guarded secret. There is an outdoor seating area for morning coffee and Demetrius, our friendly cockerel, is guaranteed to greet you each morning.

There is a sofa bed in the living room which is suitable for up to two children to share: over 5s only please. Please contact us before booking to confirm details.

We are just 5 minutes away from the Ananda Sanctuary, where we volunteer. A percentage of the proceeds from the cottage are donated to the sanctuary and our guests will be able to join Meet and Greet days at Ananda when available.
