Authentic Thai decor and lots of places to sit and relax make this an excellent choice. We rented a motorbike through David and Oil which was delivered and picked up for us. The location is cooler than other parts of the city because of the forest and the mountain. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Baan Kiri for 3 weeks to learn Thai Massage in Chiang Mai, we're 19 and would fit in the category flashpackers. If you are able to ride a scooter do yourself a favor and skip the hostels in the old city. We extended our stay from 2 to 3 weeks, because this guesthouse, 10 minutes ride from the very core of Chiang Mai, is a hidden gem. Not only that you have a pinterest worthy environment but the two hosts are everything you could wish for. Never had any problems and if so one of them is there to help you with every imaginable inquiry. The guesthouse with garden gives you upchearing greens, fresh air and enough space to do your yoga and even practice Thai massage on their own mattresses. Free drinking water is provided every day, you can do your laundry right across the street, there are several little supermarkets and thai markets nearby and our favourite nightmarket "Changmai Complex" where you have everything from the markets in the old city but for reasonable prices and without the tourists. Make sure you bring some mosquito repellent if you want to sit outside in the evening otherwise use the two mosquito nets inside. We enjoyed beeing at Oils and Davids a lot. We'll be back in this beautiful town. Cheers, Lisa and Tim

We couldn't be happier with Mim. She is one of the best hosts I ever encountered. Always super helpful, generous, and sincere. Though the place may seem further away from the city, there is a lovely local market, beautiful cafe, and generally the area is very authentic. Just rent a bike and you can get to everywhere you need. Highly recommended!

It's our second time back at Baan Kiri (our first trip was in Jul, for our sort-of honeymoon)! We love Baan Kiri for its peace and quiet, out of the heavy traffic that is the Old City and busloads of tourists during the high season. It is only a lovely, very convenient ride into Old City or Maya Mall (if that's your thing). We prefer to stay in more residential, local areas as we find that things tend to be more affordable, and the neighbours, friendlier, as was the case at Baan Kiri. Its proximity to the little noodle shops catered for the nearby Chiang Mai University students and NaNa Bakery (please, do yourself a favour and TRY IT!!) is perfect. Of course, Mim & Gary made everything so much better. Friendly, helpful and interesting, they show lots of care to their guests and truly make you feel at home. They even took the time to bring us and another couple to their friend's cafe at the Mae Rim valley area, which was wonderful! A couple of inconveniences happened this time around - our motorbike (not the scooter Mim loaned us) had a broken throttle and Mim helped us talk and negotiate with the shop owner. We are already planning our next trip back, if our work permits. Hopefully!

This is the first time I've been to Chiangmai and be warm welcomed by Mim and Gary. Mim welcomed us by a fruity & healthy breakfast, she has a power of caring. You will always find the warm and honest talking to her. :) Gary shared us good places to go, nice places to eat and experiences we should spend there. Gary is a adorable and enthusiastic host, if you have no idea what you should do, ask Gary! Thanks Mim & Gary for treating us very well. We'll definitely come back there the next time.

We absolutely loved staying at Baan Kiri. The place was beautiful, full of real character and the outside areas were stunning. Lots of plants and little grass huts covered in fairy lights, it was such a great place to relax. Mim and Gary were great hosts, really really friendly. It felt like we were friends staying not paying guests. They lent us bikes which was great, it was so nice to be able to pop in and out of the local area as we wished. The room itself was lovely, comfy bed and having a place to sleep in the living room which was a bit closer to nature was great. This room doesn't have air con, but actually it wasn't a problem. My boyfriend and I went in the hot season and slept really well, they do have other rooms with air con so if that puts you off have a look at those. Nothing was too much trouble, they gave us great tips on what to do, organised taxi's for us and Mim even collected a takeaway for us one evening! The minibar/shop they have is really useful for drinks and any essential items you may need at really reasonable prices!

Very very nice place, nice people, nice garden, nice breakfast and lovely dogs, the room is also very good, if you want a quiet place, then it will be a good choice, only one thing: a little far from the old city, not easy to find car, you need to ask Mim to book for you in advance.
