If you're looking for a truly unique and different experience then the Shepherds Hut Knocklayde could be for you. You will have to earn your reward with a 20 minute hike after your 4x4 trip to the mountain. The stone built hut has unrivalled panoramic views. A truly wild location 240m high on the slopes of the mountain with another 270m to the summit. The single room building, once a traditional sheep fold offers a cosy shelter for 1 or 2 brave adventurers.

The space
A single room traditional Irish Shepherds hut in very original condition with stone walls and concrete floor. Completely off grid, no electricity or WiFi and no TV. This is a very rare chance to unwind and immerse yourself in the natural world around you. There is good mobile phone reception for most networks. You do have a wood burning stove with plenty of logs. There are two small beds stacked that can come together if required with duvets, pillows and linen provided. There is a camping stove with kettle and pans. Crockery and cutlery are also provided. An outside toilet with hand basin and shower (cold water only from the mountain stream) Towels and soap are provided. Responsible pet owners and their pets are welcome. You will need to be moderately fit to make the hike to the hut. The mountain path is relatively flat but can be wet in places. Further walks up or down the mountain and around the forest can be more strenuous with steep climbs or descents.
