Very centrally located in a quiet, upscale urban neighborhood. California king size mattress, air conditioning, and a washer/dryer for weary travelers are key features our guests love. It's really tiny, but guests visiting San Diego don't spend much time inside!

The space
Hello Travelers!

Welcome to our very small studio, a completely private apartment located minutes from everything in San Diego, in the exclusive South Mission Hills neighborhood.

This apartment is definitely small, but it has everything you could need with kitchenette, bathroom, private patio, and a washer/dryer for your own use. The studio is one end of a private home but is completely separate. And unlike most urban areas of San Diego, there is always plenty of parking on our quiet street.

The neighborhood is central, and within walking distance to many shops and bars. It is also freeway close, and within walking distance from the Washington Street Trolley which goes Downtown and to Old Town and beyond. It is a 2-minute drive up to the Zoo, Balboa Park, and Hillcrest, our gay area of town, and one of the liveliest. It is also a mile from UCSD Medical and Scripps Mercy Hospital if you are a physician in training.

The area is alternately called, "Midtown" because it is only 2.2 miles to downtown, and a 1/2 mile from Little Italy. It's also close to the airport, but because we are tucked in a tranquil canyon, the airport noise is minor.

AMENITIES:
- King-size bed w/goose-down comforter
- 32" TV with multiple channels (cable + HBO + Netflix, Amazon movies.)
- Wifi
- Mini Kitchenette: Coffee maker, Toaster, Hot plate, & Mini fridge
- Private Patio
- Washer/Dryer
- Internal heater and Air Conditioning
- Lots of wine glasses, plates, cups, cooking utensils, pots, pans.
- Mini travel hair-dryer (not super powerful, but handy in case you forget yours.)
- Iron, and ironing board
- I also provide coffee/tea, creamer, sweeteners, olive oil, canola oil, salt, pepper, spices etc. (If you are there for an extended stay and run out of coffee say, then you are on your own for additional provisions.)
- 2 big BEACH towels and 2 beach chairs, snorkeling goggles and fins.
- Plentiful PARKING on my quiet street.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS
You are within a couple of blocks of some top bars and restaurants, "International Restaurant Row"
- Gelato Vero Cafe - on the corner, 5 mins by foot for coffee, scones, muffins etc. And yummy desserts.
- Starlite Lounge - San Diego's trendiest supper club for hipsters
- The Regal Beagle - a craft beer drinker's heaven, & artisanal sausages. I recommend the Moroccan Lamb!
- The Wine Vault - Five-course prix fixe dinners paired with Californian wines for $65.
- Shakespeare's Pub - British food, beer and soccer 24/7.
- Blue Water Grill - fresh seafood and great fish tacos.
- Karina's - great octopus tacos, and excellent poke & ceviche.

SHOPPING AND ATTRACTIONS:
You are 5 minutes by car from Fashion Valley, Mission Valley, Sea World, Downtown, Old Town, and Balboa Park. You are 10 minutes from the beach, and 20 from the Mexican Border and North County (for the best surf!).
-Trolley and Bus Lines to downtown or Hillcrest, Little Italy, or Old Town around the corner. The bus stop is a 4 minute walk, and the trolley station (Washington St) is 7 minutes. There are bus schedules/routes in the apartment to peruse.

There are two potential drawbacks to the studio that may affect some: first, I mentioned it's small. But the vaulted ceilings make it seem larger. Second, when weather's foggy or cloudy, it carries the sounds of the airport. Flights are grounded after 11:30pm, and do not resume until 6:30 a.m. As one guest said, "it's not enough to disturb our conversation or sleep."

My very first guest made biscuits one morning during her stay, which is a testament to how comfortable and easy living in our studio is. I think you will be just as comfortable despite its size. The neighborhood is full of high-end homes, and is great for walks or exercising. Some of the best views in San Diego are right at the top of my hill. I hope you enjoy your time in San Diego!

Guest access
Washer and Dryer for your use only. (We have our own inside my house.)

Plenty of street parking.

Please feel free to sit in the swing in my front yard, and have a drink. It's nice in the evenings to watch the lights in the harbor come on.

Other things to note
San Diego is really spread out, so I always recommend a car. You can get to almost every place without going on the freeway, it just takes longer. If you are not comfortable driving, a public transit pass is $5.00 per day, and allows you to travel on any bus or trolley all over the County.
We also now have bike share and scooter share all over the City, so plan on using those sometimes also. Our rules do not require a helmet for using a scooter, but you may only drive it on the street, not the sidewalk.

Hi there! As an avid traveler, I've been lucky enough to travel to some pretty far-away places. Along the way I've met some amazing people. Some of my best experiences have been out in the middle of nowhere, having a conversation with people who can barely speak English, yet somehow we can have a smile and a laugh, especially if there's a cold beer involved. These are my favorite experiences in life. My best accommodation experiences have always been in either someone's home, or a very simple setting. Yes, I like 5 star travel too, but I really prefer the simple things in life. I'm excited you are checking out Midtown/Mission Hills. Not only is it super central, it is one of San Diego's best and oldest neighborhoods! Please see my "guidebook link" for all my personal favorite restaurants and bars within walking distance. I hope you enjoy our home, Belinda PS Despite my busy schedule, I do like to share what I know about San Diego, so let me know if you have questions prior to, or during your stay. I'm always on my hand-held and usually can reply within a few minutes.

During your stay
In the Summer I see my guests more because I usually leave my kitchen door open, and guests say "hi". But in Winter, it's more difficult to catch each other. I work during the week and often have community meetings in the evenings, depending on my projects. Weekends I often invite guests over if I'm having a bbq.
