A charming, studio flat in the heart of the Pyrenees in the beautiful village of Arrout. A light and airy room in a 18th century barn conversion. You have your own private entrance, a small but perfectly formed and equipped kitchen, a private bathroom and your own hot water supply. French windows open onto a little patio and the woods and there are beautiful views of the mountains (and snow) from the garden and village. We live next door in the main house.

The space
We have spectacular views of the mountain chain from the garden. When it rains you can often find black and yellow Fire salamanders after dark in the garden. Bring a head torch for night time nature watching or we can lend you one.
Amazing stars - there's very little light pollution so the night sky can be spectacular on cloudless nights.
The bed and bedding are all new. Sheets and towels are provided.
Kitchen:
There is cutlery, crockery and pans in the kitchen. There is an Italian style stove top expresso coffee maker and a cafetière. There's a mini fridge and a 2 ring electric stove. We provide some tea and coffee and kitchen basics such as salt and oil. There isn't an oven or a microwave.
Bathroom:
There is a shower.
Towels and soap are provided.

Guest access
There is woodland directly in front of the house if you wander through the woods you will find a little stream and then further down into the valley it leads to a river. You're welcome to explore the woods and garden. There is a parking space behind the house or you can park over the road. There's a trampoline in the garden that kids are welcome to use.

Other things to note
There is a lovely little market just down the road in Engomer (a 40 minute walk along a woodland path with spectacular views or a 5 minute drive) on Sunday morning for coffee, crepes, local meat, organic vegetables and cheese and there is a good local shop there too.
There are lots of great walks and bike rides.
Shops are not open in this area on a Sunday afternoon.
Up the hill in the main part of the village there is a small park with a ping pong table and swings. We can lend you bats and balls for table tennis, just ask.

Location

Arrout, Occitanie, France

If you leave our house and walk up the road you will find the beautiful old church of Arrout, the first church was built on this site in the 13th century and parts of that original building are still visible with Templar symbols and late Roman motifs. If you continue you on you'll find the village with it's spring water fed 'lavoir' and old stone houses.

There are spectacular views of mountain peaks throughout the village and the higher you go the better they get. From the village there are various mountain biking and walking tracks to explore. The Santiago du Compostela traverses the village too, look out for the scallop shells on the sides of buildings and the church.

15 minutes away in Saint Girons there is a huge open air food market by the river on Saturday morning which is well worth an excursion. There are endless valleys to explore and peaks to ascend in the surround valleys, on foot, bike or by car.

In summer there are streams and rivers to cool off in and in winter there are hillsides to sledge down. The nearest ski slopes are about an hour away.

Cyclists looking for a challenge can choose from several famous cols from the Tour de France, Col de la Core, Col de Menthe or Col de Aspet are all on the doorstep.

The GR10, the walking route that crosses the Pyrenees from coast to coast is accessible from the village too.
