About this listing

The Garden Room is spacious, with a comfortable queen size bed, cotton sheets, a couch, persian rug and an ensuite. Our guests always say they love the decor. The couch is under the window and is a lovely place to relax. Aircon for the summer.

The space

We are in the heart of the Manning Valley on the mid north coast of New South Wales. Its a lovely old house, (once a bank), built around 1910 which has been lovingly transformed to make two rooms for the B and B. Our guests love the decor - some say vintage chic and others say French provincial style. One of our hobbies is to collect and restore furniture..... We discount both rooms if you are staying more than one night. The Garden room is discounted to $175.00 per night from $195.00 and the Bank reduces from $220.00 to $195.00.

Guest access

We live at the back of the house and the guests use the three rooms in the front. Our guests have access to a dining room with tea making facilities, a fridge and microwave and use of the front verandah. We have a parking area for guests at the front of the house (uncovered), and keys for each room so that guests can come and go as they please.

Interaction with guests

We love interacting with our guests however we do respect their boundaries. Some like lots of space and others like a good chat!

Other things to note

We are 50klms from Port Macquarie and 20klms from Taree. There are several vineyards definitely worth a visit, especially Bago who have a wonderful Maze to walk before you tuck into a picnic in their grounds and sip their delicious wine.
For the nature lovers, we are a short distance form Cattai Wetlands, complete with 170 different species of birds including black swans.

The Bank suite was amazing! It was our anniversary and Ken and Sallie upgraded us to that room. It was perfect! We had a beautiful fireplace and sat and indulged in Sallies's fabulous gluten free brownies and treats. Being a pastry chef myself, I can honestly say they were the best we'd ever had! My husband now is seriously considering going gluten free something he should have done years ago. We might have to get those brownies mailed to us... As hosts, Ken and Sallie are gracious and very likable. They are consummate hosts. We invited them to come stay with us if they ever venture our way. McGowan's Bed & Breakfast Inn was a fabulous experience and we will definitely be staying again in the near future. Thank you so much you made this anniversary one to remember!

Response from Salli And Ken:
Loved having you stay with us and really appreciate this generous and encouraging review. I'll definitely keep making the coconut friands and the chocolate brownies! We would love to host you both again - so many more conversations to be had and ideas to share. And don't forget the bread recipe.....

Eve and I had a delightful stay at Ken and Salli's charming bed and breakfast. The house is a beautifully renovated - by Ken and Salli - old house from back when Coopernook was a much bigger and busier town. I loved the old world feel, and all that hardwood. Ken and Salli were wonderful hosts. They made us feel completely welcome and they let us know about lots of great things to see and do in the area. I'd never heard of the Cattai Wetlands or Crowdy Head. We only had a day to look around but I think we'll need to return for a more extensive look around. The Manning Valley is gorgeous. Who knew? I can't finish without mentioning the breakfast - this is a real B&B after all. Ken and Salli made us eggs benedict. Their eggs benedict breakfast is a good enough reason for a return visit. We had a fabulous time. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Ken and I enjoy creating spaces that are beautiful, comfortable and as natural as we can make them. Sharing what we have created in this beautiful part of the world is the end result. Its so much fun meeting guests of all ages and backgrounds. Ken would say that he makes the best poached eggs in town and I would say that I make the best flourless orange cake. Our music tastes are eclectic - we belong to an a capella choir which sings anything from gospel to African and Aboriginal songsl. We have a friend who teaches yoga and we enjoy our connection with our yoga family once a week on Mitchell's Island. We both like to cook and enjoy making our guests happy through good food!
