The space

Your room is an original Victorian bedroom, formerly built as part of a Gentleman's boarding house. i.e. the house was designed to provide independent space for each guest When we renovated, we made great efforts to maintain the original layout of the rooms - but I am afraid the outside toilet did not remain!

Guest access

Guests will have access to the whole house's three bathrooms, 1 guest lounge and 1 kitchens and the garden.

Interaction with guests

When we are home, we love to chat to guests about what they are doing and where they have been and are keen to help with any questions that they have about London and places to visit. Or if you prefer to go it alone, we are happy to leave you in peace.

The neighbourhood

Our neighbourhood is surrounded by green parks and open spaces, including Finsbury Park, Clissold Park and the Sailing lakes only 100m away - complete with architecturally designed building - by the same designer of the London Eye!
The local bohemian shops of Stoke Newington are in walking distance (through Clissold Park) and the trendy shops of Islington are only a 15 minute bus journey away (no 341 bus stop is just 30 metres from our house).

Getting around

We love the wide range of transport links that our are has:
Finsbury Park has two tubes lines (Victoria and Piccadilly) that can race you into London in less than 10 minutes to Kings Cross and only 15 mins to Oxford Circus.
Our house has access to two tube stations - Manor House and Finsbury Park and so you can choose which one to use.
From Manor House, you can reach Covent Garden in 20 mins
The buses are also extremely useful and efficient - 15 mins to Angel in Islington - home to numerous trendy restaurants (e.g. Jamie Oliver's Italian), and 15 mins to Camden Town - home to the famous Camden Market.

Other things to note

There are other people who are using the shared spaces (kitchen and lounge) and so we cannot guarantee they will be kept immaculately tidy, but they are cleaned regularly. We prefer to allow our guests access to these areas rather than deny access because they are shared, and as usage of these spaces is low, it makes sense to allow our AirBnB access. The long term lodgers are always very welcoming to AirBnB guests, if you manage to see them, as most of the time they are out working or socialising at friends.

it is convenient and safe. The room is clean. In April it may still a little cold so due to old house it may a little cold in night and near the street. Rachel is on holiday but others are nice. It is a valuable stay.

Response from Rachel:
Thank you Ruiqi for your helpful feedback and we hope you enjoyed your time in London. I was sorry not to be at home to meet you but heard how much everyone loved meeting you. I am sorry that you were feeling a little cold at night, as the room has two large radiators - and is usually very warm especially with the large windows facing south. I wonder if the former guests turned down the radiators, as there is a dial to adjust the heat. I had left two mohair blankets in the room and a spare heater in the hallway in case any guest feels the cold. Our housekeeper did not mention that you had told her the room was a bit cool at night. But I will ask her to specifically ask in future, as sometime guests don't like to ask, and it is normally very fast to resolve any issues with temperature as both radiators can be adjusted to provide the temperature you prefer. So, I will make sure we check with guests in future to make sure they are happy with the temperature. Our very best wishes with your studies.

Me and my fiancée stayed here for 14 or so nights. We absolutely loved it here! The house is located really close to the Manor House tube station, great for traveling. Rachel and her family were more than helpful and inviting. When my boots had fallen apart, they helped me repair them and I still have them after all the walking around we did. The room we stayed in was very clean and neat. Never had issues with someone hogging the bathrooms, because they have multiple. There is a kitchen area where you are able to cook and if needed, wash your clothes. Spending Christmas day with them was a blast, they are a very generous family. After spending our time with them, we left for Edinburgh for a few days and when we came back to London to fly home, we needed a place to stay. Rachel was more than happy to make a place for us.

Response from Rachel:
Dear Brandon and Samm, Your stay with us for Xmas with your cousins, made our Christmas so special with everyone still laughing that we managed to fit 19 people into our family kitchen - a last minute swap to a larger turkey by our farmer, and the excitement of BBQ'ing the turkey outside (a first!!) will never be forgotten. You guys made the day a real success with the hours you spent over a glass of wine with our other guests peeling strange vegetables (brussel sprouts) and sweet chestnuts Thank you for your amazing willingness and enthusiasm to participate in all the preparations, which helped to create one of the happiest Xmas Days ever!! With my Spanish and NZ family, plus our friends from Portugal and HK, having four friendly Americans joining us too was just magic - dare I say of Hogwartian proportions. I am still so impressed and excited that you guys became engaged on Xmas eve while visiting the Harry Potter studios. Now that really was true magic!! We miss your infectious laughter and can't wait to see you again - you are welcome back anytime!!!

This was a great place to stay, with fantastic transport connections into central London and a friendly and generous host. Manor House tube station is only a short walk away which gets you into central London quickly and nearby Finsbury Park is great for a jog. The area is very safe and quiet at night, there's a balcony off the room I stayed in which was perfect for enjoying a morning coffee with breakfast. I can definitely recommend staying here.

Thank you Adrian for taking the time to leave a review, and for highlighting the factors which made your stay enjoyable. Not surprisingly, they also mirror the reasons why we chose Finsbury Park to live. Close to two tubes, two large parks, numerous bus routes and quiet and safe too. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and would be delighted to have you return in the future. Best Wishes, Rachel

The minute we walked in, Rachel tried to make us feel like we were at home. She did everything possible to help us and made sure we were comfortable. If we stay in London, we'd love to have Rachel and her family as friends!

As a New Zealander I have a great love of the outdoors and anything sports related.
I spent my entire childhood either competing as a equestrian show-jumper or climbing mountains in New Zealand.
My skill as a Chartered Accountant and passion for sport inspired me to set up two sports charities for children here in London and I also help run our local athletic club, which is right on our doorstep - in Finsbury Park. I coach the young children three days a week.
As a UK Athletics coach, it has been a very exciting time in London, as since the Olympic Games, I have had the opportunity to work alongside several international coaches who coached the Great Britain Olympic athletic team. As a result I have become a "mad guru" on running technique and injury prevention, which is always a useful skill to have - for oneself especially!! But of course, I am very happy to offer guidance and tips to others, should they ask.
I speak fluent French and holiday regularly in southern France and Spain, where I have Spanish family. We also love visiting other countries, and hope to have another holiday in the USA soon....
My motto in life: Happiness comes from helping others - especially when it comes from the heart.
