The place was absolutely great. There were plenty of sleeping surfaces, wifi worked well, a fully stocked kitchen (including a coffee maker and blender), bathrooms worked perfectly and were clean. The view on the deck was spectacular. You could see several of the bays, and there was plenty of nice lawn chairs and a couch on the deck. Satellite TV with plenty of channels were available; we were able to watch a few games of the NBA playoffs and other channels. She also let us borrow pool noodles, a styrofoam ice chest, beach chairs and umbrellas, which was very nice of her. The location was just a few minutes drive down the hill to the Red Hook area, which had every kind of shop we could need. None of the beaches we went to were a long drive at all; Sapphire Beach, Coki's Point, Smith Bay, Lindquist, Magen's Bay. The ferry to St. John's was close also. We came just a little bit too early for the fruit to ripen fully, but you could see the fruit hanging all over the trees. The branches of a mango tree hang directly over the deck. We felt pretty safe, with several locks on the front and back doors. At night, we would sleep with the backdoor and windows open because the nightly ocean breeze felt so great. Sadly though, I must say that we encountered bed bugs in one of the beds. My brother and I got bitten on our arms, legs, and back. My parents in the other bed didn't get bitten, and my sister and her boyfriend sleeping on the couch with the backdoor open didn't get bitten either. However, the hostess made a trip to the airbnb to give us fresh sheets. My brother and I ended up sleeping on the various other couches and chairs for the final night and that was fine. Hopefully the bed bugs issue will get sorted out, and when it does, I would recommend this place for sure.

Response from Gemma:
Thank you Chris for the Five Star ranking you gave Casa Gracie, we really appreciate it as we really try our best to make our home a wonderful experience for everyone that visits. In addressing your last day with us, we had an inspection and passed with flying colors. Keep in mind that in the Caribbean (a tropical setting) sandflies are common and can be picked up while at the beach and unknowingly carried. Nevertheless, we have purchased a new mattress and bedding. We appreciate the feedback. Best Regards.

Gemma was a great host. The house was roomie with a fantastic view. A hilly road leading us to it. Everything was as described. We enjoyed having our own home away from home while on our elopement trip. This island has some of the best beaches that are not to be missed.

Really wonderful place to stay. We came with 2 kids (toddler and baby) and Gemma had gone to a lot of trouble to procure for us an extra crib, high chair, pack 'n play for the beach, some useful little extras like bottle brush, spare baby clothes (all brand new!) - we were really touched, and it was all extremely useful! The apartment is set on the top of a hill and yes, the roads are impressively steep and winding in places, but that's par for the course on St Thomas! The place itself is just lovely - spacious, spotless, open plan, attractive "rustic chic" decor, with an ambience that I can only describe as "Zen". You feel soothed the minute you walk in! Kitchen has everything you need, showers are great and the beds are super-comfortable. And of course, that view! Simply breathtaking. I miss it already! No, there's no aircon, and the curtains are very light so you may be unlikely to sleep in (not something we get to do these days anyway!), but with the gentle breezes constantly wafting through the apartment you really don't need air conditioning (at least at this time of year, late March/April!) Keeping the windows open does mean that sound travels easily, but it's so peaceful up there, that's not a problem unless you're bothered by roosters! Red Hook and all conveniences are just down the road, tranquil Lindquist Beach is just round the corner and it's 5 minutes to the ferry to beautiful St John. What's not to love? Thank you so much Gemma and Chinwe for a truly magnificent stay. We will be sure to recommend you to anyone we know visiting St Thomas!
