The space

Contemporary beach home with fabulous zen courtyard featuring enclosed gazebo for intimate dinner parties or private chill zone. Open concept, approximately 1000 square feet, open staircases to second and third floors, flooded with natural light and a great urban vibe. Fab neighbours, private and friendly.

Guest access

My home is your home. Access to most features of the space, including internet, flat screen TV (third floor studio space) with working fireplace. Gazebo, decks, private garden. In 2017, however I have kept my personal papers and research for my book on my third floor desk area. Please do not disturb, and here is my website if you are curious about this international film/book. (URL HIDDEN)

Interaction with guests

Fully private space for you to enjoy during your stay. Emergency phone numbers to contact and support people within five minute walk of the residence, contained in the brown envelop in the porch.

Other things to note

This is a classic Toronto beach house, attached on both sides to very friendly quiet neighbors. Although it is a brick construction, sound does travel through the walls as you can imagine, and therefore I ask my guests to please be mindful and keep the music and TV low, particularly in the evening.

There are too many good things to list about Roxana's lovely home in the Beaches community! My family loved our recent stay, and enjoyed all the comforts of home! we walked and biked everywhere... to the Foodland on the corner, to local bakeries, to pick up delicious Thai takeout, ten minute walk to the beach and walking trail along boardwalk... this place has it all and then some. The Beach village has an upscale bohemian vibe with everything close by. Roxana's home is close, but just far enough away so you can enjoy multiple daily brisk walks for exercise also!! The home space felt fancy -yet laid back, zen and chill all at the same time! we slept like babies each night with the lovely cross breezes in the upstairs bedroom. the back patio and gazebo... wow! perfecto for an evening meal and some cocktails al fresco! my husband actually nodded off in the gazebo a few times! if you find yourself wanting to visit the Beaches community, you should definitely consider staying at Roxana's fantastic home.

This is a beautiful terraced home on 4 floors (so lots of stairs!) in a peaceful family neighbourhood, only minutes from Kew park and the beach. A wonderful street, with lots of independent shops and places to eat and a very regular bus service into Toronto (20mins) just 2 minutes away. A lovely garden with a delightful summer house is an added bonus! Probably not that suitable for very little children (open stairs) or noisy teenagers but a wonderful place to stay if visiting Toronto and wanting to experience one of the best areas in which to stay.

Response from Roxana:
It was a real pleasure to host Ian and his lovely family! Very gratifying to hear from visitors who appreciate the space and take the time to explore the neighborhood, particularly in the lush days of summer. But we 'Beachers" love our little village all seasons, particularly with the lake with all its personalities.

Coming all the way from Finland, we stayed for 2 full weeks with my wife and two pre-teen daughters and had a wonderful time. For us, the area was very familiar as we used to live not far from the place, so we knew exactly how great this neighborhood is. The Beach is amazing for early morning walks or jogging and of course simply spending time around there. Also, the Olympic pool nearby is really great in the summer time. We really love the Queen Street vibe right around the corner with everything you need available any day of the week. Roxana is a great host who communicates fast and takes care of any questions immediately. She was also there to meet us on arrival and explained everything very clearly and made us feel warmly welcome. With four of us, sleeping space could have been slightly tight, but Roxana recommended bedding arrangements already as we were booking, and made everything work perfectly for us by the time we arrived. The house itself is very cozy, typical style for an older Toronto neighborhood, reminded us of where we used to live for many years. Furniture is very convenient, kitchen also worked well for us. Foodland and other places around the corner are great for updating supplies quickly when needed. Very nice little backyard with a BBQ and a cute gazebo for evening time. Upstairs gets quite warm during hot summer days but there is always the main floor and the basement where you can cool down when needed. And the house also has a well working AC for when heat wave hits. Should also mention the very friendly and helpful neighbors, willing to provide tips and advice with practicalities if needed. And not just the next door neighbors but the whole street, everyone is so friendly in this area. Car parking does exist around the corner at the school backyard or with city permit available online if needed. Sounds probably crazy for most, but we did not need a car at all, everything is walking distance and we were not here to do tourist attractions anyways as we have seen them all before. Overall, this worked perfectly for us as a home away from home and visiting our old neighborhood, meeting old friends and making new. Many thanks! Jouko

Great location in Beaches area in an old 3 level home with lots of room. Unfortunately there were major issues regarding cleaning of this rental. As soon as we opened the fridge door we got the very strong smell of fish or more to the point rotten fish that I guess had been left in the fridge at some point. The smell remained in the fridge for the entire 6 days that we were there. There is absolutely no way the cleaner could not have noticed this smell. The cupboard doors were of the old style with a indentation along the length of the door in which you put your hand to open the door. Every door had an accumulation of dirt, grime so clearly they had not been cleaned in months. You had to put your fingers in this stuff to open the cupboard. There were lots of lights out and switches that didn't work but that wasn't a big deal. Cleaning of the rest of the unit was fair (my blinds are dusty too) but the kitchen was really poor. The joke here is that I paid a $109 cleaning fee.

I've harpooned my cleaners as a result of this fishy review! And am offering you a free night should your aquatic adventures bring you back to the beaches of Toronto. On a serious note, I apologize for your disappointing experience as you are the first of 20 plus international guests who've left with a sour taste in your gills!

This is a tough one to write because there are so many good things to say about Roxana and her home. This beautiful little home is located in the heart of the Beaches (aka The Beach). It sits on a beautiful, tree lined street just steps from the bohemian vibe of the Beach Village and the waterfront. It is south of Kingston road so it is in the original Beach. The house is small but full of light and art. There is a lovely patio at the back with a very high end "smoker BBQ". The back yard is perfect for reading, dining al fresco or just chilling with a good book. The house can easily accommodate 2 - 4 people. But the best part of this property is not the house, it's Roxana. She is a wonderful host! Even though she was a great distance from Toronto, she managed to stay in touch helping us with any questions we had. She is a delight and made our stay the success it was. You really can't do better than staying in this perfect pied-à-terre.

I am a documentary filmmaker, who's travelled the world and enjoys meeting people from all over the globe. I am currently producing a feature length film about my Russian mother who was a Red Army soldier captured by the Nazis during World War Two. I love jazz, opera, walks on the boardwalk, and reading big fat weighty historical biographies or tomes. My favourite writers these days are Sebastian Faulkes and Leo Tolstoy. I respect privacy, encourage guests to get to know the features of the neighborhood, and can recommend the best regional theatres, restaurants, or bike paths upon request!
