Come enjoy our beautiful slice of paradise. Our home is located on the beach in Esterillos Este, Costa Rica. The house accommodates 8 people and includes a swimming pool and amazing sights. You'll love the velvet sand and warm waters of our beach!

The space

Let's put it this way-- when the final day of your stay arrives, you just won't want to leave!

Our home has many great features. There are comfortable accommodations for 8 (5 beds total). The house is air-conditioned, safe and secure. The pool and grounds are beautiful, including some fruit trees and a variety of flora & fauna.

There is also a recently remodeled "casita" (the 4th bedroom) in the back of the property that features a bathroom and its own patio. Great for the parents or anyone in the group wanting a little extra privacy. The house also includes a washing machine should that morning hike get a little muddy...

Wifi available should you want to connect (hopefully not too often). A crib can be provided upon request.

There is a front yard with lush grass and a swimming pool to relax by. There is also a backyard underneath the edge of the forest-- perfect for watching for Capuchin monkeys. There is a family of Capuchins that live behind our home. If you're lucky, you just might spot them around dusk or dawn. You can leave a few bananas on the fence line and see what happens!

Our beach is right in front of the house. It is technically a public beach, like all beaches in Costa Rica, but you would never know it. You have it all to yourself. The black, volcanic sand is very fine and soft like velvet. You might find some sand dollars and pretty shells, but there are rarely any discomforts. The beach is unique in that there isn't much rock or coral in the water. Not only does this mean a safe and comfortable swim, but it also means clearer water, devoid of any large predators.

You won't believe how warm the water is all day long. There are perfect, medium sized waves-- attractive to the novice and experienced surfer alike. Also great for boogie/bodyboarding and just jumping around in. I have traveled the world and I can objectively say this is one of the best beaches I have ever been lucky enough to enjoy.

And then, there is the sunset. The sunsets in Esterillos Este are the kind of sunsets that can rejuvenate the soul. All the colors in the rainbow will dance in front of you as the Sun nears, and dips below the horizon. On the other side of the day is the sunrise, reflected in the perfect mirror that is left in the sand after the tide rolls out to sea.

Our beach is the perfect vacation away from stressful lives. A place where you can be free, a place where you can reconnect with what is most important-- family, friends, and the serenity of nature.

Guest access

You will have access to the main house (6-7), guest house (2), yard, beach, pool, washer/dryer, wi-fi, and a couple wonderful restaurants are just a short walk down the beach.

Interaction with guests

I am here to make sure everything is perfect during your stay at our beach home! I am committed to you having a delightful time in Esterillos Este. It truly is paradise.

We will mostly communicate via e-mail, though we can share other contact information. I am happy to offer recommendations (restaurants, parks, activities, etc) for your adventure. I know of many things to do in the area, both near and farther from the house. I can help set up surf lessons/rentals, or fishing trips through some local friends. You will also meet our property manager. He lives close by and will greet you on your first dat and help you get settled in. He is also a great resource for things to do in the area.

Before confirming your reservation, we can chat about your group and what you are looking for in your vacation, and I will give an honest assessment of our home/property based on your needs. During your stay you can e-mail me if you need anything and I will do everything in my power to help out.

We look forward to sharing our little paradise with you!

I would only ask that guests have respect for our home—our pride and joy— and treat it just as they would treat their own. Please lock up the house while you are not present. We also ask that guests are conscious of their energy usage. The A/C is provided for your comfort, but it can be wasteful to run the A/C during the hot Costa Rican days while you are enjoying the beach. Only use A/C with all doors/window closed, including bathroom door. Thank you for your understanding.

If you want a quiet place that is very family friendly and secluded from the busy city life then this place is for you. Great outdoor amenities with pool and patio area and outdoor shower which we used 10/1 over the indoor shower. A few steps out the front and you are on a beautiful beach that you will have to yourself most of the time. This is a place I would definitely come again.

We had the time of our lives! Michael was a wonderful host and we are grateful he opened his home for our first visit to CR. For the most part, the previous reviews are accurate so I won't be redundant. A few items I would have wanted to know that have not been mentioned. First, you have to shed the spoiled American lifestyle because this is not a resort. You are in the jungle and there are A LOT of bugs. We purchased ziplock bags and had to put pretty much everything in them to keep the ants out. Second, the home is in need of repairs. We had issues with the toilet in the main house all week and the fence was being replaced the first three days we were there. The bars on all the windows are rusted so be up-to-date on your tetanus. Third, the location of Michael's house is excellent so don't let the drive time from the airport deter you. Lastly, make sure you have money for tolls before you leave the airport. There were approximately four tollbooths that averaged 400 colones each. We will definitely return and will likely be booking Michael's home. Pura Vida, The Foor's

Response from Michael:
We are thrilled you had the time of your lives, Stacie! Looking forward to hosting you again. Thanks for your insights for future guests. You are 100% correct- its a jungle out there! The wildlife is an integral part of Costa Rica. Washing dishes immediately after use and storing opened food items in the fridge/freezer helps keep the ants at bay. My sincerest apologies that the fence broke right before your stay. We typically don't do work on the property while guests are there, but this time we had to ensure a proper perimeter for you guys. Security bars are replaced periodically but rust rather quickly in the ocean air. Thanks for understanding. See you again soon! Pura Vida

This "Beautifully Tranquil Beach House" lives up to its name in every way and was the perfect place to ring in my 40s with my closest girlfriends. We spent mornings on the beach and evenings in the pool, with impromptu adventures in between. Everything Michael describes from amenities, to restaurants, to markets is right on point. We had a rental car, so that made dining and shopping a little more convenient for get up and go. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, and utensils so we brought home all our left over meat and veggies for a perfect scramble in the morning; there was never a rush to go for breakfast! There was even a little charcoal grill, so we did stay in one night to grill some fish for dinner and it was fantastic. Our week was a little more jam packed that we anticipated, but who could turn down ATV'ing and zip lining in the rain forest or taking a boat to Tortuga Island?!? Phenomenal! On our last morning, we even got to see the Capuchin family! The only regret is that we did not stay longer! I would highly recommend this place and would absolutely return. #puravida

I loved the location of Michael's house and the relative seclusion of it and ease of beach access. He was extremely helpful with information and always quick to answer queries. The kitchen was well-supplied with cooking equipment (this is a feature I value in a rental house) and there were lots of towels (although they were a bit damp and we had to dry them before use). The decor wasn't exactly inspiring and the amenities were fairly basic but everything was adequate for a very pleasant stay and the location was incredible. We had a sloth in the tree in our front yard! Better than any siting that we paid way too much for at Manuel Antonio. Overall, I would recommend this for a group of 5-6 people and I would stay here again.

Response from Michael:
Hi Elana- Thanks for your awesome review. We are so happy you enjoyed the relative seclusion and our animal friends. Quite lucky to see the sloth that lives on our property! My sincere apologies for the damp towels, certainly not the norm. Your reservation was a rare same day turnaround and the towels likely could have used some more dry time, but we were happy to accommodate you on short notice. Good feedback on the decor. While not the focus of our property, we will look into ways we can make it more interesting :) We look forward to hosting you again. Pura Vida.

We loved our time at Mike's place! This is definitely a place to unwind and enjoy the slower pace of life. It's in a great secluded location away from crowds and has a beautiful beach right in your front yard. We've just returned to the States and already miss Estrillos so much! The house is great and has everything you'll need to enjoy your trip. We opted not to rent a car and rely on transport whenever we needed to leave the house - which was awesome and made life super relaxed, but there really isn't a store within walking distance (although you could walk to the hotels down the beach and grab lunch or dinner out - which we did and loved! Peaches wasn't at the house, but we did have tons of wildlife to enjoy - we had the Capuchin monkey family come to visit one evening (we were there 7 nights) and the kids had fun naming the host of lizards and iguana's living on the property. This is a really special place - thank you so much Mike and Gilles for everything! We can't wait to come back.

Response from Michael:
Thanks for staying with us, Liz! Great to hear you appreciated our sanctuary. There is a newer neighborhood market- but you are right it isn't quite walking distance (less than 5 minutes by car). FYI our loyal canine assistant manager, Peaches, recently retired and I brought her home to the states at the end of 2016. Sorry she wasn't there to keep you company, but I'm glad the Capuchins and Iguanas made an appearance! Looking forward to your next stay :) Pura Vida

My husband and I spent 7 nights here with our two children 9 and 7. This place was absolutely wonderful and was exactly what our family was looking for. Right from the very first communication Michael went above and beyond anyone else with the level of detail he provided and with the time he took to answer each and every question. My husband was disappointed to notice that there was no bbq in any of the pictures and no mention of it in the description and when we asked Michael about it, he promised us that he would have a grill there by the time we got there and he did! It was a perfect little charcoal grill that we were able to take right down to the beach to have our sunset meals there. The house itself was wonderful. The inside was a perfect size. The beds were very comfy. The kitchen was well equipped, there was TV and wifi. There was A/C in each bedroom and also in the main room. Having A/C in the main room proved to be invaluable for the 2 days that our kids came down with a nasty virus. I don't know how we could have survived without it! The rest of the days, we only need to use the A/C in the bedrooms when we were sleeping. There is only one bathroom in the main house but there is a bathroom in the laundry building outside which was great for not having to run dripping wet through the house. The laundry facilities were also a life saver with having two sick kids! There is another bathroom in the casita as well if you were desperate for another bathroom, but we had no need to use the casita for anything so didn't. The pool was amazing and so refreshing after spending time on the beach. There is an outdoor shower right byu the pool which was very convenient for rinsing off the sand and salt water. We spent every mid day in the pool when it was too hot to be anywhere else. We loved that there was always some corner of the pool that was in the shade. We loved watching the iguanas and lizards and loved feeding the capuchins every day as well. We even had a few days where the scarlet macaws were hanging out in the trees by the pool! The beach was pretty much deserted during the week and had a few more Ticos on the weekend. It felt like we had the place to ourselves and spent every morning and every sunset building sand castles and boogie boarding or surfing at the beach. sunsets were absolutely amazing every single night that we were there. We did go check out Jaco one day and left after about 15 minutes. We were so happy not to be staying in that busy, hot town! We did a morning trip down to Manuel Antonio and had a great time, but again...
