Secluded & private detached cottage/garden surrounded by countryside situated on walking route The Loch Lomond & Cowal Way. It is a mile from Loch Fyne & seconds from the walkers entrance to Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park/Argyll Forest & on the edge of "Argyll's Secret Coast" & the Kyles of Bute National Scenic Area. It is an ideal/simple space for walkers, nature/outdoor lovers, cyclists, writers/painters or a retreat. It has a wood burner, solar panels & 100% renewable power.

The space
The cottage has a porch opening into a hall which leads to a living space, large bathroom and a bedroom. We have reclaimed pine floor in the hall, living and bedroom with rugs. From the living space there is a separate fitted kitchen. Unusually there are higher ceilings (at 2.4 metre) in the downstairs are than you would expect in an old cottage which gives a sense of spaciousness. There are country views from the living room and bedroom into the private garden & countryside beyond. A simple colourway is used throughout the cottage to create a calm and peaceful atmosphere. There is a separate garden shed with light, electricity and a table with art material and an easel.

Please note that there are potential hot surfaces (wood burner). Regrettably we do not allow dogs/pets.

Hallway
The front door opens into a small porch where there is hanging space for coats & a space for outdoor shoes. There is a small clothes rack for drying and pegs.
Electric (100% renewable electricity) heating is provided throughout and is an addition to the wood burning stove which has a back boiler and can heat the cottage. There is underfloor heating available in the kitchen. We would appreciate you switching off the electric when you leave and when you do not need it.

Living Rooms
The living area has a two person Danish leather settee and an easy chair, wood burning stove, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speaker. There is no TV or radio in the cottage. There is a table and three school chairs. There is a wood fire stove and a generous initial supply of logs and kindling will be provided on arrival. For longer stays please bring wood with you or we can arrange additional supplies for a surcharge.
The kitchen has a ceramic hob, single oven, integrated fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. The kitchen cupboards are stocked with crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils and tea towels. Cleaning products are provided.

Bedrooms
Bedroom 1 (downstairs) has a king size bed and built-in wardrobe/storage space with coat hangers . A hairdryer is stored in the wardrobe.

Upstairs in the height restricted loft area you have a loft/sitting room . It is a pleasant hang out space for reading, working or relaxing.

Bathroom
The bathroom is simple and of a good size, white with a steel bath and a shower above. There is a heated towel rail and a separate electric fan heater. Towels are provided along with basic toiletries.

Guest access
Guests have full and exclusive access to the cottage and private gardens.

Other things to note
The cottage sits at the end of a single track road. Parking is provided on a private shingle drive to and a five bar gate that can be shut to ensure privacy to the cottage. There are two steps leading to the front door, a flat entrance to the back door however because of shingle and door widths the cottage is not suitable for wheelchair users.
I provide an initial basket of logs and kindling for the wood burner - please note more wood may be needed if you light the fire each night.
Mobile phone coverage can be patchy in this area of Argyll. There is no Vodaphone reception at the cottage itself. We have a good wifi connection.
Smoking is not permitted in the cottage or studio space.
It is a c 15 minute walk/c. 2 minute drive to a local shop, pub and can be accessed by car and on foot. There is a lovely hotel 5 minutes drive/25 minutes walk which has a restaurant and bar.
Unfortunately pets are not allowed.

The area is off the beaten track but not too far to travel to local sights. We have many red squirrels and the area is a wildlife haven. The cottage is on the walking trail The Loch Lomond & Cowal Way and next to the far Westerly entrance to the Loch Lomond National Park. The village has 2 small shops open (normally) 7 days a week, a fuel station, hotel, cafe, pub and an occasional bus service to Oban, Inveraray and Dunoon. The cottage is c 18 miles from Dunoon the nearest town where there are two supermarkets. Benmore Botanical gardens (part of Edinburgh Botanical Gardens) is about 6 miles this side of Dunoon. There is an annual film festival (normally November) and jazz festival (4-6 Sept. 2020) in Dunoon. There is an active visual and performing art scene around the peninsula with an annual Open Studio Events (end September 2020). There are excellent award winning restaurants nearby. For the outdoor lover there is kayaking, horse riding, sailing, golf, sheepdog trials and a modern Spa (Portavadie) all in and around a Scottish National Scenic Area, viewed as the "Jewel in the Crown" in Scotland.

I work with my partner in an arts & design partnership creating largescale textile art made by hand with Scottish wool and natural plant dyes. I'm the founding director of a local social enterprise. In my previous life I developed an environmental and social sustainability project in mainland Europe. I've lived in mainland Europe, travelled widely and I believe I have some insight around what makes a happy stay. I love authentic design, music (all genres), I play classical violin, love swimming (including wild swimming & I'm a qualified swimming teacher) and reading and life. Living & working here on the West Coast is never boring. I'm looking forward to welcoming you to the cottage .
