Looking for something off the beaten path? Sun & Moon is located just far enough away from town to soak up some beautiful forest and sky. We are off-grid, and as close to nature as possible. Wild turkey, deer, and eagles are our neighbors and stars light the night. A perfect place to recallibrate from hectic modern life.

The space
The yurt was handmade in Mongolia out of wood, wool and canvas. Traditionally, many nomadic people have lived and thrived in similar structures- and Mongolians have truly made their yurts (called ‘ger’ in Mongolian) into works of art. Enjoy the simplicity of nomad life- unplug and sleep to the sounds of owls, coyotes, and frogs, and wake up to a beautiful Kansas sunrise and French press coffee. Our outhouse is just a few yards away, and has a water basin to wash your hands and face, and a simple composting toilet. A wood stove provides great heat during the colder months, and firewood is provided for the duration of your stay. If the skies are clear, cozy up around a fire in the stone fire pit outside.
Two extra cots are available if traveling with children.
Drinking water, candles and a lantern are provided.

PLEASE NOTE: The yurt is heated by a wood stove and requires you to be able to build a fire and keep it stoked throughout your stay to maintain steady heat during the cold months.

OFF GRID:
no electricity
no WiFi
no running water
no shower
There is no place to charge/plug-in CPAP machines or other wired devices.

ACCESS: Our location is reached by gravel road. In winter, 4WD is necessary when snow and ice is on the ground.

WEATHER: We are closed from June-August due to temperature. Being in a yurt is similar to camping, it is not temperature regulated. In May and September it can get hot during the day inside the yurt and will cool significantly in the evening.

COVID-19 information:
The yurt has a built-in buffer of one day between guests. We follow Airbnb’s cleaning and sanitizing protocol, and have changed our check-in to no-contact. We are happy to answer any questions that seem pertinent to the pandemic.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to explore the mowed path around the property, yurt, and outhouse. We have a nice trail which is available for hiking, located beyond the outhouse through the Japanese gate. Trail is approximately 1 mile and has two intersecting loops, and several steep areas.

Other things to note
NO SMOKING of any kind in the yurt.

If you are traveling with animals, we may be able to accommodate you. Please send a detailed message before booking.

Just 12 minutes from downtown, and 5 minutes from 1-70, we are just close enough to town, while still feeling remote! We are lucky to have many accessible trails about 1.5 miles down the road at the KU Field Station.

During your stay
We honor that folks come to get away from it all, but are available by text if needed and are usually nearby. Our house shares the property, but is not at all visible from the yurt.
