Interaction with guests

As you can see from our photos we are passionate about our home in this peaceful and spectacular resort. We look forward to personally welcome you as our special guests. It's our pleasure to offer insider tips for exploring the extensive and remarkable Jungfrau Region: favorite restaurants and things to do, etc. We or our neighbor will be at the property to personally welcome you.

We kindly ask you to visit Wengen's Tourist Bureau as soon as possible during your stay to pay your Visitor's Tax which is very small yet necessary to support visitor services and trail maintenance. The tourist bureau is wonderfully helpful & provides you with an abundance of useful information as well as a VISITOR'S CARD which gives you discounts at various places in the area. We will ask you for your visitor's tax receipt to prove this has been paid. Thank you!

- Adult CHF 3.80 /night (winter), CHF 2.80 /night (summer).
- Child 6 – 16 years CHF 2.00 /night (winter), CHF 1.50 /night (summer).
- Children under 6 years are exempt from the tax.

Many thanks for supporting the local region & resort services which are well managed, and beautifully preserved for all to ENJOY!!!

Other things to note

There is a big advantage to being located in Wengen (between Grindelwald & Lauterbrunnen/Murren) in that you can MOST easily ski/hike the entire region!

The Jungfrau ski pass covers Wengen, Grindelwald, and Murren, a total of 195 km of ski pistes including the Jungfrau glacier at over 3,400m, but you need to be prepared to take the train to explore the full potential of the area. The new Mannlichen cable-car now gives a convenient and speedy alternative to the train. The extensive ski lift system is absolutely state-of-the-art!

Intermediate skiers have plenty of long runs to choose from and can spend a day travelling right across to the Schilthorn, above Murren, at 2,970m or descend down to Grindelwald.

For non-skiers, there are extensive groomed trails for winter walking & mountains trains that bring you to an abundance of mountain restaurants with spectacular views to enjoy rosti at its best, and of course excellent Swiss service! You can dine well in Wengen, particularly at the Caprice, the Baren & Mary’s Café which is a 5’ walk from Stella.

For longer stays: The proximity to Interlaken with its lake and golf course and Lauterbrunnen makes this the perfect base for summer touring.

We rented the upstairs apartment for 11 nights. Family of 6: 2 adults, 2 sons (23 and 21), 2 children (15 and 12). We also rented 2 extra attic bedrooms at extra charge. Sanna was a helpful host: in many emails, she was very informative. We added an extra guest later to our booking and she was helpful and flexible. Sanna greeted us with drinks, showed us around and explained how the hot water etc worked. She replied promptly to emails regarding various problems after she left, even though she had left to go overseas. Her communication and welcome deserve 10/10! Pros: -spacious apartment -balcony with stunning views -peace and quiet of location - good base for travel to main tourist attractions Cons: -the 'private double bedroom' with 'double bed' was in fact a single bed with separate trundle bed alongside, shorter and lower than the single: very uncomfortable for 11 nights, especially for an adult. These are designed for occasional overnight guest use only. Sanna then offered an attic room with double bed, but this was cramped and dark, and would have meant leaving our 2 younger children entirely alone in the main apartment below. From emails and the listing, we expected-and were promised-a double room with double bed next to the children's. Also, there is an extra charge of SFR 17 per night for each upstairs room: we had already paid extra for 2 upstairs rooms. -Our bedroom door would not close: the latch was unmovable with dried paint. It was held slightly ajar by means of a large rock. - The 'bunk-bed' in the children's room was actually a 'mid-sleeper' bed, plus a very old mattress on the floor underneath (no bed frame). This was completely unacceptable: we would not want our youngest child, who has suffered with ill-health over the past year, to effectively sleep on the floor for 11 nights. I emailed Sanna immediately, explained this was not acceptable and asked to use the day-bed in the living room instead. We had not originally wanted anyone to sleep in the living room (the day-beds also served as the sofas), and therefore paid extra to rent 2 more upstairs bedrooms for my elder sons, but had no choice in the end. - There are no curtains, except one very old, thin one in the 'double' bedroom. My children were therefore woken early by bright light coming through the bare windows. - BASIC MAINTENANCE seemed absent: electrics need safety check, eg loose wall sockets, exposed wires protruding from ceiling light fitting, glass light cover fell from ceiling and smashed, narrowly missing my husband's head; mirror in bathroom held on by elastic; lino to top stair stuck down with sticky tape; cracked window panes; boarded-up window in wintergarden room; collapsed wooden hand rail to outside steps; garden area to front and rear overgrown with weeds and brambles, therefore unusable. Main problems: inaccuracy of listing's bedrooms description (not double bed, not bunk-bed); lack of general maintenance creating safety concerns.

Response from Sanna:
Dear Linda, Thank you for choosing to visit us and for your very thorough communications. The timing of your trip was indeed unfortunate as explained. In retrospect, I think you would have best been served in a hotel. Especially with a very ill son and large family to take care of. Clearly you needed something different. As discussed, the electrician came just before your visit and he must have left things undone and not screwed back the light fixture correctly. I’m truly sorry for this. We also had an inordinate amount of rain before your stay so the farmer who cuts our grass was unable to cut it before your arrival. We offered you the double bed bedroom upstairs for no extra charge. However, you really wanted the bedroom which opens directly onto the sun balcony. I will double check tall beds are fitted properly with their correct mattresses. When I am not there things might get moved around. The house has many large windows and wonderful views and light. The windows you describe are in the cleaning closet area on the back side of the winter garden and do not obstruct any views. The curtains in your bedroom are light, cheerful and in good condition (not heavy and dark). I’m so sorry for your frustrations. This is not a perfect house but an Authentic 1885 Berner Oberland Mountain Chalet that's located beside the ski lift. Ideal for families who are contentedly spending the bulk of their time enjoying the great out of doors, hiking and skiing.

We had a wonderful stay during February half-term. Sanna was very helpful providing great communication before our stay and greeted us upon arrival. The chalet was perfect, albeit rustic. The kitchen is well stocked and after shopping at the COOP in town we ate in most nights. The chalet has ample space (sleeps 6 - we were 4) and is roughly a 15-20 mins walk from the centre of Wengen. We walked with small children without any issues. Taxis are available, if needed. The Innerwengen chairlift is less than 5 mins away for easy access to skiing as well. Overall, a great holiday in the snow and sun --- thanks for a great stay Sanna!

Sanna's place is a tucked away, traditional, beautiful chalet about a 15 minute walk from Wengen. The walk from the town to the house has some incredible views and passes through a forest and beautiful creek/waterfall, so it is pretty difficult to get tired of it. In terms of the house, there were only curtains in one of the rooms, however that did not affect the 6 of us as we wanted to be up as early as possible to complete our hikes. We also had to pay for our towels which we were a bit confused about, but the house and the location more than made up the 6fr. Wi-Fi is also another cost with the house, however is definitely not a necessity when in such a beautiful part of the world. It was also extremely fast and worth the money. Thank you so much to Sanna for being such a great host and communicator with everything!

Sanna is a terrific host - she communicates quickly and clearly and left us a truly helpful list of instructions about the chalet and what to do in Wengen. The location was perfect for us, right at the foot of several lovely hiking trails that led into some of the best walks in the Jungfrau region.

Sanna was a great host. She was there to greet us and had kindly prepared wine and snacks for our arrival. She was very thorough and clear regarding information about the Chalet. She also made herself available via email or text in case we needed anything or had questions. She even recommended a wonderful spa for a facial. The chalet is about a 20 minute walk from Wengen and I liked that it was a bit secluded. The view from the balcony is epic, especially at sunset, and you can hear the water from a nearby stream and cowbells. We greatly enjoyed our stay there. Many thanks!!

It was a very beautiful & Comfortable stay at more than 100 years old Home (Chalet Stella). We received a very warm welcome from Sanna. We appreciate the hospitality of Sanna. She also provided important information and tips for our holidays. The walk to home from Wengen Railway Station is very scenic and eye catching. The area around home is perfect walking destination with beautiful views of Alps.

We spent a very nice week in Wengen. Sanna made us feel welcome. The chalet is close to the ski pistes (3' as advertised). The chalet was spacious, clean, the beds comfortable although some of the furniture was a bit outdated (especially the chairs in the dining area). The kitchen was also well equiped with fondue and raclette sets. We were in the upstairs apartment. If you can choose I would recommend the downstairs apartment which is more comfortable.

We are an international family (two teenagers) who have travelled extensively. Sanna, co-owned a seminar house for 14 years and clearly knows what fellow travelers and traveling families need and appreciate. We divide our time between the capital city of Bern, the nearby Swiss Alps, and visit family & friends throughout Europe & the USA annually. We enjoy sharing our authentic, historic chalet surrounded by pristine nature. Wengen is a very well-preserved mountain village rich in nature, history, art and tourist attractions, culture, sports and gastronomy.

We have been welcoming guests from around the globe to our home in the Swiss Alps for nearly 20 yrs.!
