Bello Horizonté, Comunidad Valenciana, Spain

Sights & Attractions
ALTEA is without doubt one of the most charming towns of the Costa Blanca North.
In its early tourist days in the early 1960s the town attracted many artists, musicians, writers and craft craftsmen giving Altea a Bohemian atmosphere.
The town is famous for the landmark church of Nuestra Senora del Consuelo or Virgen de Consuelo with its beautiful blue and white tiled dome roof- one of the most photographed landmarks of the area. This church is situated at the top of a hill and can be seen for miles around. The N332 splits the town in half. On one side are the sand and pebble beaches backed by the long promenade and the marina, on the other side of the road are the old and new towns. The tram station and busy Tuesday morning market are both to be found in the new town. The old town part of Altea is set on a steep hillside and is a popular haunt of artists. In the narrow streets with their scenic white houses, orange trees and geraniums, one can find painters, potters and many other traditional craftsmen’s studios. Many of the streets are stepped and wind up to the church and plaza at the top of the hill, from where one can enjoy magnificent views of the mountains and the sea. These pedestrianized cobble streets are packed with top class restaurants and a fascinating array of tiny shops offering exquisite local crafts, paintings and gifts. There is a real authentic Spanish feel to Altea - often missing from other towns on the coast.
Altea offers a wonderful diversity of beaches, coves and cliffs.
The beach of Altea is over 5 km long and is divided into the stoney Cap Negret beach to the north of Altea, followed by the La Roda beach next to the old town and the largest beach, the Cap Blanc to the south blending into the coastline of Albir.
The harbour and marina of Altea is very scenic and a great place to eat or drink.
Places of interest and ideas of things to do in Altea
• Old Town: steep cobbled streets packed with character, restaurants and shops.
• Market: large Tuesday morning.
• Church: Nuestra Senora del Consuelo famous for its blue and white tiled dome.
• Beaches: sand and shingle beaches.
• Promenade: long beach front with great selection of bars and restaurants.
• Marina: at southern end of the town.
• Tram Station: for transport south to Benidorm and Alicante or north to Denia.
Festivals and Events

There is no better place than Altea to get involved in one of the many colourful fiestas which represent a true taste of Spanish culture. Most have an abundance of food and drink available along with street dancing which lasts well into the night. On June 4th Altea plays host to the Feast of San Pedro and La Virgen de Carmen. These fiestas celebrate the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Be ready to dance the night away whilst indulging in abundant amounts of food and drink with fireworks going off all around you.
If you happen to be here in the last week of September don't be surprised to see people dressed in battle-ready costumes with guns from the 13th century. They are re-enacting the battle between the Moors and Christians. All of this goes on with bands playing and guns blazing.
Just get in there and enjoy all that is going on -especially the local food and drink. This is a must on your fiesta schedule as the town becomes a riot of processions and parades.
Street markets
Every Tuesday tourists from the surrounding villages arrive and Altea becomes a town bustling with life; even more than normal. It is well worth a visit to the street market in Altea!
You will also find street markets and flea markets in the surrounding villages.
Albir Tourist Attractions and Sights
Albir has been developed to suit the northern Europeans where bars and restaurants are all situated within walking distance on tree-lined streets. Enjoy your Menu del Dia on the shady terraces of restaurants and watch the world go by. Being on a self-catering holiday there are many supermarkets dotted around the town for grocery shopping.
Albir’s main beach is called “Playa de Racó de l’Albir” and is six hundred meters in length and has magnificent views of the Penon de Ifach in Calpe.
The main promenade is called, “Paseo de las Estrellas” (Stars Promenade). Albir holds an annual national film festival every July. The town has imitated Hollywood by laying stones along the promenade and dedicating them to national film stars.
Albir Nightlife
Albir has plenty of bars and restaurants but the nightlife is on the quiet side really. For a really wild night out try nearby Benidorm.
If you would like to have dinner and a show then be sure to book your table at the Benidorm Palace. Taxi fares to Benidorm are inexpensive
Guadalest is one of the most popular tourist attractions on the Costa Blanca. Guadalest is a village sitting on top of a mountain. The village appears perched on a tiny pinnacle rising into the sky which makes it look absolutely amazing. This gives beautiful views of the green valley with many other mountains in the background.
Guadalest castle (Castell de Guadalest) which can only be accessed by walking through a 15 foot long tunnel carved out of the rock.
When you get through the tunnel you see the old village houses and it feels like you have entered an ancient time. You can visit the restored house of the Orduna family to get an idea of what it used to be like living in ancient times in Guadalest.
There are beautiful views of the valley and the dam and reservoir – the Embalse de Guadalest.
Look out for the white bell tower of Penon de la Alcala which rises up seemingly precariously perched on the mountainside.
Villajoyosa is a hidden gem of a tourist resort located on Spain’s Northern Costa Blanca shoreline Villajoyosa is known to have the whitest sandy beaches in the whole of the Costa Blanca and having blue flag status.
Villajoyosa is architecturally so colourful it reminds one of the Brazilian cities namely Salvador de Bahia.
The long stretch of white sand is framed by a promenade with bars and restaurants mostly of a Spanish nature with plenty of palm trees.
There is also El Paradis beach and Xarco beach with a watchtower and Torres beach with a Roman Tower.
There is a small cove used for diving and naturism, the Racó del Conill and the Bon Nou and La Caleta beaches with their sparkling, clear waters are also worth a look.
The Xarco walk heads south after you have crossed the River Amadorio, highlights include the shrine of the Virgin de la Salud, the Paradis and Bol Nou beaches and the Xarco watchtower.
You can also try the Cala walk. Highlights include the Arrabal houses, the Bay of Vila Joiosa, fishing harbour and the Estudiants, Torres and Raco del Conill beaches as well as the Roman funeral tower Torre de Sant Josep.
Villajoyosa is home to the famous Valor chocolate factory.
The Algar Falls
The Algar Falls or Fuentes del Algar are a natural beauty found behind the hills of Altea near Callosa d’en Sarria and La Nucia on the Costa Blanca.
These water falls are a great place to visit to have a picnic and go for a dip in the pools of the Algar Falls.
The drive to the Algar Falls is quite a spectacle in itself, with terraces of almond and orange trees covered in nets
For hikers and people who enjoy going on walking tours this is a great place of natural beauty and should definitely be seen as a must when visiting the Costa Blanca.
On site there is also a botanical garden as an added bonus, featuring over five hundred different species of cacti.
