Guest access

Guests have access to kitchen, laundry, TV/family room, living room, dining room, back deck and yard, fresh linens, parking and bikes.

AIRP residents are very welcome! We have had several groups stay with us while attending the AIRP class at AFI Theatre--read the reviews. They appreciate the close proximity to class and the quiet comfort we offer for studying, preparing meals and relaxing. We appreciate the U.S. and international acquaintances we've made as their hosts.

Interaction with guests

This is a HomeShare BnB—with us, not a separate, private guest home or apartment. Please tell us during your stay if we can help make your experience more comfortable or pleasant. Common courtesies and cordial interaction are expected. Guests usually have the kitchen to themselves in the morning and we try to coordinate our dinner so everyone has kitchen access to prepare an evening meal at a reasonable time.

Other things to note

We have 2 cats and are registered to foster dogs, so if you are allergic, this is not the place for you. We don't currently have a dog but have applied to foster dogs brought to the area from high-kill states for future adoption. There may be a dog here during your stay and it may be hard to know very far in advance. It would be best if all guests are comfortable with dogs and cats.

Check In
A lovely, quiet home within walking distance to Tacoma Park metro. Gail and Dan are warm, welcoming hosts who clearly enjoy sharing their home with visitors. I especially appreciated the easy access to the kitchen where coffee, tea and wonderful muffins were available. Next time I'm in DC, I'll be back to see them!

Stayed at Gail and Danny's house for the AFIP conference in February. It's conveniently located (15-20 min walk to AFI theatre and silver spring metro station, 5-10 min walk to all sorts of good food). Their house is very nice and has all the amenities. They have 2 very stealthy cats that we didn't see much of. They are a very nice couple and I enjoyed interacting with them (though they were gone for the bulk of the month for vacation). Gail stocks all sorts of breakfast food for renters. Would highly recommend their house, particularly for residents staying a whole month for AFIP

Gail and Danny's place is in the good location for AIRP students. But not recommended for those who prefer privacy and freedom during accommodation. Since lots of house rules were provided after confirmation with Airbnb and also the following weeks of staying. Complements were also been made by Gail if she feels you're not clearly understand the rules. Many times she used 'looking down words' like 'have you ever used the dish washer?' Or 'may be you guys dont know how to live with other people'. Of course we do feel that sense. Everything Gail felt was not right, were also projected to us, uncleaned dishes, used pan in the dishwasher. And she kept upset on us with the unpleasant voice tone. Kitchen for cooking is also an advantage but there were so much limitations of using, such as it will be available to use 'til 9 pm (which had been changed to 8 pm on the 2nd week, as you preferred that and it's 'perfect' for you), suggestions to cook simply meals and just every other day (not everyday or as you wish), and suggestions about washing dishes in the sink that we found it's not hygienic at all. Breakfast will be provided til 11am with limits of orange juice and milk. Gail started complaining how much orange juice and milk we consumed each days. Even sometimes (Twice) We bought our own milk and welcome you to used!, which actually we have a right not to do, since it's defined as a part of breakfast. Spaces in refridge were also limited and we couldn't understand how many you prefer us to cook if there're also limitation in frequency and amount of cooking. Small dishes for people also used for feeding your cat also, another non-hygienic issue. Cultural differences were used to complaint many issues by using the word ' impolite'. We also guests who paid ( many of people knew the rate and all felt it's too expensive) for rental, you're not just doing charity. We also not sure that you're some kind of racism or not. By the way, we recommend to clarify the house/ room facilities with Gail before booking. Since the term 'double bed' was used to defined 'a queen sized' bed for 2 person in 1 bedroom and the 2 single beds were refered as 'a king sized' bed if you put them together (as shown in the description picture, you're not even noticed that was two single beds, sitting together, that was 'tricky'.The 2 bedrooms upstair were fully furnished and half of spaces in one bedroom was occupied with stuffs. We chose this place because of totally 'five star reviews' and 'good descriptions'. But unfortunately, why we didn't feel the 'five starred accommodation' at all. Also the way you'd treated us, both during and after we left. In personally, Danny was nice to us and we appreciated that.

Response from Gail:
Anyone considering our homes should read any of our other 100+, highly-rated reviews. Also, feel free to contact us to discuss any of the specifics in this review. You can also read our review of this group since our dissatisfaction was quite mutual. If we had just started hosting we would quit after this experience, it was quite unpleasant to feel shut out of our own home. We've been hosting for 5 years with great success and as a result we have friends all over the world with whom we keep in touch and even visit. Successful Airbnb experiences call for some level of cooperation, consideration and adaption. I compromised on several of our guidelines for them but they abused most of them. Since there is an implication that our complaints were cultural or worse, I have copied here another review from guests of the same country, age, gender and all other circumstances: "Gail and Danny are really nice. The temperature in the house is stable and mildly warm. I love it. Every part of the house is clean and tidy. I like the laundry, the restroom and kitchen." I invite anyone to scroll down to read other reviews.

Gail and Danny are really nice. The temperature in the house is stable and mildly warm. I love it. Every part of the house is clean and tidy. I like the laundry, the restroom and kitchen. I think, there is a little bit dust in carpet. That makes I have a running nose when I'm in the room.

Gail and Danny and the home they together create are beyond amazing. They are extremely thoughtful, personable and generous. The rooms me and my party stayed in were clean, cute and very cozy. The living room, kitchen, back and front yards are for our use at all times. Free laundry, breakfast, wifi, and bikes were provided. It certainly feels like a home away from home. Within walking distance, there's a bustling downtown with restaurants, big grocery stores, cafes and shopping options. Quite to my surprise, there's even an art house movie theatre, AFI! I will want to come back just to see them and stay in the neighbourhood. Strongly recommend it!

We have lived and raised our children in this eclectic part of the DC Metro area for 30+ years and will never discriminate against any person or group. We are self-employed, creative professionals and work from our home. Our B&B home and separate guesthouse are at the nexus of DC, Silver Spring, and Takoma Park Maryland.

We have enjoyed the acquaintances we've made in our 6+ years of hosting travelers and have over 100 positive reviews. Here are clips from some of our 5-star reviews: “Gail and Danny were absolutely GREAT! They were very helpful getting situated in the house. Gail was kind enough to pick me up from the metro station on the first day"…"The place is very conveniently located near the Silver Spring downtown, close to metro, restaurants, gyms, convenience stores"…."Danny and Gail were attentive while allowing us privacy and freedom to come and go as needed"…"We loved the casual and comfortable surroundings and the personalities of our hosts"…."My best [B&B] experience so far !!! This place is great, especially if you're an AIRP attendee ! :)" ..."This was truly a home away from home. If i ever go back to DC, I know where I'm heading." …"The house was lovely and exactly as listed, and the neighbourhood was safe, welcoming, and a short walk from anything you could possibly need"…"Their place was clean, cosy and comfortable. Plus, I had no trouble commuting into DC every day and I felt safe in the area around their house"…."The kitchen has a lot of room for cooking and it's always clean as well. It was actually a little sad to leave"…."This experience in [street name] avenue is one of those which we wont forget. The house is clean, cozy, and somehow unique and authentic"…."Better than expected: the house is big, cute, cosy, cleaned and you have everything you need. They are always trying to help you and are so respectful….” If you're new to the HomeStay concept, you will be "living with" others like you might connect with friends or family only possibly with more consideration. If you are looking for a cheap hotel we encourage you to consider our guest home listing, instead, where your group will have the entire house to yourselves.

We enjoy sailing, hiking, skiing and biking. Ask us about the trips we offer to Annapolis and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. We're avid travelers and enjoy insights on other cultures, languages, cuisines and adventures.

Now that you know something about us, PLEASE give us the courtesy of sharing information about yourself, your group, and the purpose of your trip when contacting us about availability.

Safe travels,
Gail & Danny
