Brymire Cottage is a unique and charming cottage, surrounded by farm land and situated in the parish of Tankerness in the East Mainland of Orkney; approximately 2 miles from Kirkwall Airport and 5 miles from Kirkwall Town Centre. Make sure your booking is adequate length for all you want to see and do; as many guests advise that a guest requires at least a four night stay or longer to appreciate all that Orkney has to offer.

The space
Renovated in November 2018 to a high standard, this cottage had a new kitchen and air source heating installed, new decoration, carpets, vinyl and furniture. Each room has a colour scheme linked to Orkney with the bedroom featuring an “Aurora” theme, the living room a “summer/autumnal Orkney” theme, the bath/shower room an “Orkney beach/shoreline” theme and the Kitchen a “weathered Orkney” theme with a cheeky hint of copper reflecting the whisky and distilleries of Orkney. Also featured in the cottage are canvas prints featuring Orkney scenes and nature.

I am a super host and also provide self catering accommodation at the next door property, Brymire House. With two self catering properties in close proximity to each other and each with their own private space, I can offer, if bookings allow, grandparents and their son/daughters’ family their own private holiday accommodation and yet they can holiday together or alternatively, two families wishing to holiday together however, with separate accommodation.

28/12/18 - 31.12.18 Review from my first guests; "Had an absolutely fab time at your lovely wee cottage. Wanted for nothing, totally pristine and your hospitality and baking made our holiday. Beautiful photos and beautiful home. Modern facilities, tastefully decorated in a gorgeous part of the world. Brilliant nights sleep and phenomenal value for money" This review was left in the visitor's book by my first guests. Thank you.

9/8/20 "A lovely hideaway and a great base for all explorations on Orkney. Jacqueline was a superb host and 100% recommended to all considering a stay here." Thank you.

Neighbourhood highlights

The cottage is approximately 3 miles from Sheila Fleet's Jewellery workshop and her Auld Kirk Cafe and this is well worth a visit or two. There is also a gin and vodka distillery in the neighbouring parish of Deerness. Beautiful beaches and walks in the area. There is an easy circular walk from the property via the Churchyard Road and then the Groatsetter Road and back to the property.
Wildlife can be viewed in the area and, on many occasions, from the cottage windows. Hen harriers are frequently viewed from the property. Birdsong can be heard outside the cottage. There is a natural wild area to the side of the property and natural flora and fauna can be viewed here. You may even view the Orkney vole.
