Your cozy, private little getaway, nestled among trees, overlooking a lake. Located on the Golden Circle route but far enough away to escape the crowds. Enjoy stunning lake views from the living room or the hot tub. In winter, it's an ideal place to enjoy the northern lights, or simply relax by the fire with a glass of wine.

The cabin has three bedrooms, with plenty of room for the whole family (up to 7 people). The upper bunks are rather narrow and accessed by steep ladder, but kids love them!

The space
A cozy little log cabin, complete with wood-burning stove/fireplace in the living room and a comfortable corner sofa to enjoy the views. When you've had enough of them, enjoy Netflix on the Roku-connected TV. The kitchen is basic, but it has everything you need to prepare and eat simple meals. A counter-top mini oven and stove, under-counter refrigerator, microwave, kettle, and Senseo coffee maker. There's also a great grill outside, and an outdoor dining area.

This is a place to get away from it all. There are some other cabins in the neighborhood, but it's a gated community with no full-time residents, just vacation homes, peace and quiet. From the cabin and the hot tub, you have great views of the lake and are surrounded by tress. Immerse yourself in the Icelandic nature.

If you don't feel like cooking, Hotel Grímsborgir is a short drive away (or even walking distance), and there's another restaurant/mini market about 10 minutes' drive. Selfoss is just about 15 minutes away, with restaurants, grocery stores, and a liquor store. My husband and I live in Eyrarbakki, about 15 minutes beyond Selfoss on the south coast, and it's home to one of the best restaurants in Iceland, Rauða Húsið.

I'm an American living in Iceland. Together with my husband Jóhann (who's Icelandic), we own and manage the local restaurant Rauða Húsið (The Red House) as well as 16 guest apartments and a small hostel here in Eyrarbakki.

Our apartments are located in the old fish factory in the heart of the village, right on the seaside. This large building was abandoned for many years after the harbor closed and the fishing industry shut down. Piece by piece, we are turning it into apartments for guests. It's perhaps not your typical Airbnb, because the apartments are purpose-built as guest accommodation—but it's a tiny village and we would like to invite more visitors to come and stay without taking family homes off the market. A small part of the building has a 36-bed hostel, and that's where we will meet you with the keys.

My husband and I are both avid travelers, having living in Thailand, Mexico, and Honduras before moving to Iceland. We love Iceland and our little village, and we're happy to share it with you! If you're looking for travel advice or a local perspective, don't hesitate to send me a message or ask when you get here.
