Roberta and Barry's lovely Victorian home was an absolute dream for our weekend stay in Maine. The pictures were very much accurate from the description and each room lovelier than the next. Roberta greeted us with cookies and tea, a very welcome greeting after a long drive from New York, and was extremely knowledgeable about the area. We were pleased to find a lovely beach just a few blocks from their home which we enjoyed a cool swim in each morning. The area also has an excellent bakery and charming ice cream shop with some of the best bagels and ice cream I've had in some time. Roberta also provided a lovely breakfast each morning with hot coffee, fresh orange juice, baked goods, fruit, and the morning paper. The private bathroom was clean, charming, and included a heavenly updated clawfoot tub. A true vacation from our Brooklyn apartment! The bed was very comfortable and the room had a strong air conditioner that we kept on during the night. I cannot recommend this stay enough!

Roberta and her husband made us feel very welcome in their beautiful home, and provided a traditional B&B style light breakfast everyday. They made sure we took advantage of all of the local attractions - beaches, lighthouses, Scratch Bakery and Willard Scoops. We spent five days without a car and did lots of exploring on foot and on the bikes that Roberta provided. Local bus service into Portland was convenient, and there were a lot of local restaurants within walking distance in South Portland.

Roberta, Barry and their dog Emmy were excellent hosts!! They gave us so many local tips and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Each morning, we had a full breakfast spread with the best bagels I've ever eaten in my life!! I hope to visit them again! Thank you!

We stayed with Z's for three days. The house was as represented and very well decorated, spacious and roomy. This is especially convenient to a tidy little beach (withing walking distance), an excellent bakery/sandwich shop that has NYTimes and other newspapers (within walking distance), an excellent ice cream shop (within walking distance). Very quiet, easily navigated neighborhood in S. Portland. Our morning meal included coffee, fruit salad and bagels and cream cheese and the delightful company of our host's pooch, Emmy. Our hosts gave us excellent, knowlegeable suggestions on local points of interest. This was a high point of our ten day trip to New England.

Roberta was an amazing host! She made us breakfast, had newsletter ready and gave us all the recommendations we needed to have a great time in Portland. She even gave me cough drops when my cough wouldn't go away... So sweet! The room was lovely and clean and simply perfect for a weekend away!

My husband Barry & I are in our 60s. We moved from NYC to Maine in 1991 for the quality of life it offers. We love taking our 6 yr old goldendoodle Emmie to the beach every day.
Portland offers the wonderful aspects of a city - theatre, restaurants, music while being minutes away from the ocean and wonderful state parks and a short drive to wonderful lakes. We love books on tape, Doo-Wop Concerts, and since seeing the documentary Forks Over Knives we are moving towards a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle.
We have used airbnb as guests and it has been a wonderful experience. We try to be considerate and respectful of our host's home - leaving it clean & neat. Before retiring Barry was an employment specialist getting jobs for folks with disabilities. I am a social worker. We both are involved in volunteer work in our community.
We look forward to exploring other destinations through airbnb. We are also
currently offering to share our home as airbnb hosts for folks who are interested in visiting Maine where the motto is "The Way Life Should Be!"
