"The Doghouse" is a bespoke oak building, providing space, privacy and luxurious comfort for two guests. Have a real break away - our 6pm checkout allows you to enjoy the accommodation for a full day before you leave. Situated adjacent to the Blenheim Palace estate, and just 7 miles west of Oxford, The Doghouse is an ideal self-catering base for Blenheim or Oxford events, or simply enjoying the countryside, Cotswold stone pubs, and local market towns.
Situated overlooking green fields, The Doghouse provides a peaceful, comfortable and luxurious base from which to explore Oxford, her villages, and the surrounding countryside. Our guests enjoy 60 sq m of space over two levels, and a private patio area: The first-floor bedroom is accessed via a wooden spiral staircase, and has a king-size bed. There is a small cupboard for hanging clothes, and limited drawer space, so we are probably best suited to weekend breaks and short stays.
The ground-floor living area is open-plan: The kitchen is equipped with an induction hob, microwave/convection oven, toaster, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, and there is a breakfast table with stools. A large flat-screen TV (Sky included) is wall-mounted in the comfy living area, with a DVD player, and a selection of DVDs, or guests can bring their own. WiFi is provided for our guests, with a large desk space and printer, for those who need to work! Finally, the bathroom has a spacious glass shower cubicle (towels and shower gel provided), wash basin and lavatory.
The Doghouse has cosy underfloor heating for the winter, and fans are provided during hot weather.
Outside, a small, secluded patio area is equipped with a garden sofa, parasol and a bistro table with chairs for two, all overlooking fields where horses regularly graze, silhouetted against the light of the sun which sets beyond.
There is off-road private parking at the property. Full access instructions are provided on booking.
Guests have complete privacy, and are free to come and go as they please as the Doghouse is entirely separate from the main house. You are welcome to use our tennis court - please bring your own racquets and balls.
Interaction with guests
We live in the main house at the property, and are happy to help with advice or suggestions ahead of your stay
Essential directions and arrival information (we are difficult to find without these, and mobile reception is very poor!) are provided for access on confirmation of booking, and there is an information booklet for the property and the local area supplied in The Doghouse. We will provide you with keys to come and go as you please, and are available via text or phone in case of problems. Otherwise, we will leave you to enjoy the privacy, and peace and quiet that The Doghouse offers.
We have a very affectionate labrador, called Lottie, who smiles at you when she greets you. Also, a grey cat called Wilbur, who is rather timid, but very affectionate. Please be careful not to shut him in The Doghouse if he visits you!
Other things to note
There is a nearby shop (5 mins drive) which bakes fresh bread, croissants and pastries on the premises from 07.00 every day (08.00 on Sundays). Biscuits, fresh milk, a selection of teas, and Nespresso and cafetiere coffees are all provided in The Doghouse, as well as condiments for self-catering.
Maximum 2 guests.
Strictly no smoking inside The Doghouse.
We regret we are unable to accept babies/children and pets.
Please treat the property with care and respect, and leave it as you found it on departure.
Please read the information booklet provided in the property, and follow the house rules.
I am a career nurse, working all over Oxfordshire, managing care for dying patients in the community.
Prior to our move to Oxfordshire, we spent 26 years living overseas, and our itchy feet continue to take us travelling whenever time allows.
We have set up The Doghouse to provide the type of accommodation experience with which we ourselves feel most comfortable - our guests are entirely self-sufficient, and enjoy complete privacy. The Doghouse is fully equipped, offering stylish, luxurious accommodation and the peace and quiet that this location offers, overlooking open countryside. It's an ideal venue for a romantic getaway, or chill-out time away from city life. It's also an ideal venue for quiet study or concentrating on a work project. Full access information is provided on booking, and printed information about The Doghouse, and the local area, is awaiting our guests' arrival.
We live on-site, but leave our guests to enjoy themselves in complete privacy, with no unwelcome intrusions.
I am always happy to provide local recommendations, or answer specific questions by email ahead of reservations.
