I had a lovely stay at Casa Avery! Gary and Cathy were so warm and kind to me all during my stay. It was a perfect homebase for my stay in town for Allied Media Conference.

The Casa Avery is wonderfully located in a quiet area of Detroit. The house is as warm and welcoming, just likeas the hosts Gary & Cathy - and Barney, the canine allegory of cuteness. Their house is full of beautiful and quirky pieces of decoration, and the garden is a feast of flowers and herbs - Cathy co-owns one of the urban farms. She and Gary were friends rather than hosts, they are actively involved in the local community and seem to know every building of Detroit. This made not merely for a comfortable stay, but turned Detroit into an eye opening revelation.

Great neighborhood but very urban, was perfect for me to be near my son and the downtown area.

We had a fantastic time in Gary and Cathy's beautiful home. The house is situated in a gorgeous neighborhood near a gas station (convenient) and walkable to a few of the venues we visited on our trip (like Masonic Temple, Leland City Club, TV Lounge). Their home is full of interesting art and the hosts are also full of incredible information and a wonderful attitude. The highlight: Barney the dog who would greet us at every turn. Overall a wonderful stay.

Gary and Cathy were super accommodating. I highly recommend staying here for a quick weekend in Detroit to see the sights and sounds. Gary and Cathy are well connected to the local happenings and happy to share suggestions for things to do and places to eat. Cathy's brunch spot recommendations are SPOT ON! We didn't spend a lot of time at the Casa, but it served as a great launch pad to the city. The home is centrally located and in walking distance of Midtown/Cass Corridor and downtown. However, car travel is the way to go in Motor Town, and street parking felt very safe out front Casa Avery.

Gary and Kathy made my stay at their place and my visit to Detroit a special and unforgettable experience. They are such an interesting, artistc couple and awesome companions. Their house is conveniently located in a quiet residential area just a few blocks away from major points of interest. Room itself is small but perfectly acceptable, bed is comfy and the house itself is very charming. Easy and convenient check-in and check-out process. Looking forward to my next visit to Detroit and staying with them again. Oh and the tour, Post Industrial Apocalyptic Landscape Tour of Detroit, which Gary does is a must for first timers! For me it was the best spent 24h in a city which I never visited before.

The place is just like your own home! Cosy and comfortable. If I am going to visit Detroit again, this is the place that I am going to stay.
