Our isolated shepherd’s hut is a cosy place with a large spacious shower and a comfortable king size bed. Recently fitted yet with some antique features. It has a private river view with its own private picnic table on the river too. There is a large garden area and private mooring. A porch area at the front and a cosy kitchen area to relax with a glass of wine or cup of coffee...we provide toaster, kettle, fridge and microwave and there’s a fire pit on request and a local Tesco very close by.

The space
The shepherd’s hut has one of the very view private river views where you can picnic out on your own part of the river watching the world and the cows on Stourbridge common go by or have a bbq on one of our many fire pits. We have swing chairs by the river to make your stay as magical as possible. And a comfortable bed to cuddle up in if the weather is stormy - especially made. You can hire boat or kayak from us if you enjoy water activities although please ensure you have your own liability insurance if you plan to take out a boat beforehand. There are plenty of bikes to hire in town If you fancy cycling - it's a ten minute ride into town or a row along to the Plough pub in Fen Ditton...the bed is in its own inbuilt space which makes it extra cosy and comfortable with a space beneath to store suitcases and other items. The kitchen has French style chairs and a glass top table, with solid wooden oak floors and unit tops. There is a further cabin cottage in the grounds which sleeps another two people in a large super-king four poster bed if you’re planning to visit with friends, this makes the whole garden space very secluded indeed. Both accommodations have river views and picnic benches on the Cam in front of our private moorings. Private pool and sauna - subject to availability and price on request.

Guest access
As the space is self contained the only place you will be sharing with the host family and their guests is the open air and the large grounds. That means you can feel totally alone even when others are staying. If you’d like other family members to stay at a safe distance then our riverside accommodation cabin is also an option opposite the shepherds hut it boasts a large super king four poster bed. The courtyard gates are separate from the main house. These are the only way in and out to your accommodation making it the perfect Covid compliant space. So the place is also very secure and being the last house on the main walk totally secluded. We even have entrance gate cctv to ensure the property is totally private and only invited guests come and go.

Other things to note
The river has a lot going on rowers and people living on the canal barges and there’s plenty of wild life to see as well...herons, swans and more. The boat races happen through the summer. We have friendly labradors who roam the grounds and private spaces to park just opposite our gates in front of the double grey garage doors and to the right of them by the cherry and crabapple trees..

Neighbourhood highlights

Chesterton is nestled along the river cam and boat life and wild life can be watched in a relaxed, private and secluded space. We are ten minutes away by bike from the oldest parts of historic Cambridge and 20-25 minute walk along a beautiful river path.

Some lovely local eateries include Stir' (for sourdough bread and brunch) 'Koffee Kollective' by 'Other Syde' for excellent coffee and food on the river itself. 'Midsummer House' for Michelin star eating, 'Fort S.t George pub' on the common, and more locally the 'Green Man' pub by the River and 'The Haymakers' pub with its own pizza oven and locally brewed beers.

Whilst you're here why not pop into one of the oldest churches in the Cambridgeshire- St. Andrew’s - a pre-reformation Church dating back to the thirteenth century. There’s something for every occasion on the doorstep and pubs now open along the river root have take out cups to sit along the river bank.

I am a professional singer, poet and priest. I enjoy walks and dogs, being on the river, writing, painting and making spaces beautiful and I love being outside. I love having friends and family around me, hospitality and cooking. I enjoy meeting new people and being at home. I am particularly enjoying the garden and gardening was my new passion since lock down. My latest love is sitting in our sauna or swimming in the pool overlooking the garden.
