I have a simple request when guests leave, to please leave the apartment as you found it! My two young tenants failed to look after the property when they stayed and did more damage in a four week period than the previous family of three had done in their four month stay! The apartment is a very cosy, well insulated with gas central heating and double glazing. In a spell of colder weather it was obvious that the tenants did not ventilate the apartment (open the utility room window for 20 minutes as this is not automatic). Despite clear instructions to do so at the start of their stay, when drying clothes inside, cooking or having showers. In good weather this is never something you have to think about as the patio doors are often open. I also offered many opportunities for them to let me know of any problems throughout the stay, but heard only about a broken toaster which was quickly replaced. As a result it took many hours of cleaning and painting to bring the apartment back to the quality it was before they arrived and some of the parquet is permanently damaged. I am not quite sure as a caring host what more I could have done and was disappointed with the attitude they took on leaving. Luckily I have many lovely tenants who look after the place as their own.
