Great location, but the room was pretty disappointing. First impression was easy communication and check in, but on arrival the security guard told us he had been informed by the last guests the kitchen tap was broken, not the first thing you want to hear. As well as this the ceiling fan was also broken above the bed (No air con room) and a leaky sink in the toilet with a bucket underneath collecting the drips. The room wasn't that clean with sand all over the floor and rubbish in the kitchen bin and used toilet tissue in the bathroom. The worst part was probably the toilet that wobbles around and has been commented on by other guests. At one point it wobbled over with water and a few dead cockroaches spraying onto the bathroom floor from underneath (Girlfriend was NOT impressed). We contacted Michael let him know about some of the problems. He got back to us the next day and is a really friendly host, but he was unable to fix things as it was Easter weekend, which was true. However, this didn't change things for us. Overall the location is fantastic and it's not like the room was unbearable. We still had a fantastic time, the room wasn't too hot with a small fan next to the bed, we didn't feel the need to cook much or use the sink and why would you want to spend time inside with the beach and central Ipanema on your doorstep. The thing was that we paid $45 cleaning fee and another $35 for the service charge... so you would expect the room to be clean and serviced, which it wasn't. Michael is a good host and even let us stay late to catch our flight in the evening which was really helpful. The bed was comfy enough and the TV and WIFI was all as it said it should be. I hope he gets the place looking nice again because it is a great spot and the room has potential. As it is, I would expect a step down from what you are seeing in the pictures and unless it's a busy weekend like the time we stayed, you can find nicer for your money not far away.
