Neighbourhood highlights

We are situated in the South Mainland of Shetland with the sea visible from the cottage and the coast and beach a two minute walk away. We are also very close to other stunning beaches and the island of Mousa and it’s Iron Age Broch built by the Picts c. 100 BC. Coastal walks nearby, local cafe, shop, Visitor Centre, hotel with occasional dining, swimming pool and honesty box cake cupboard! Shetland is fantastic for bird watchers, nature lovers and cetacean spotting, we’ve been privileged with the presence of Orcas for a couple of years with regular sightings. The quiet roads are great for cyclists, bike hire is available in Lerwick. Water sports including kayaking are popular and there are small leisure centres dotted all over the islands.
Shetland is rich in Viking heritage including our fire festivals. The largest is Up Helly Aa held on the last Tuesday in January, it’s a spectacular event. Whether it’s archeology, geology, music, cloudscapes, sport, birds, beaches, peace and quiet or socialising in the towns boutique cafes, restaurants and bars......there is something for everyone in Shetland.

Hello there, I'm Arlene and I look forward to sharing Da Peerie Hoose with you. I am married to Niall and we have 3 grown up children. We live in the cottage next door. We are unobtrusive hosts but also keen to meet and chat with guests who prefer a more social stay. Shetland is a fantastic place to be outdoors, we love running and walking and feel very fortunate to live here. We are also lucky to belong to a lazy old lady pug named Mabel.
