Cozy, light-bathed bedroom in the renovated "back house" of an 1850s Maine farmhouse. A convenient location for exploring Mid-Coast Maine, or as a stop on your way to Acadia National Park. We'll keep the room empty for at least 24 hours between guests during this time of pandemic, and increase our usual cleaning regimen to include sanitizing all frequently touched surfaces. The room has a private entrance - no need for any interaction with hosts. Dedicated guest parking for anytime access.

The space
Note: As of Nov 1, all visitors coming to Maine from out-of-state must sign a Certificate of Compliance at check-in. (Note: This does not apply to visitors from NH, VT, or MA.) The certificate states that you have received a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours before entering the state, or will comply with quarantine requirements while you're here (the requirements allow visitors to still enjoy outdoor activities away from other people while quarantining). You must also certify that you do not currently have any COVID symptoms.

Enjoy our newly remodeled space, including a private bathroom with rainfall shower. Cotton bedding and towels, down comforter, SUPER-comfortable mattress, new heat pump to keep you warm or cool (depending on the season), space heater for those extra cold winter days and nights, a closet and set of drawers. Tea, coffee, and a refrigerator provided in the room.

This space is perfect for anyone looking for an affordable, private, clean, safe and comfortable alternative to a hotel room. It is ideal for those looking to spend a night on their way to or from Acadia National Park, traveling to the area for multi-day business trips, or using the room as a cozy crash pad from which to explore the Midcoast region. If you are looking for a space in which you can prepare meals, enjoy cocktails on a private patio, or be secluded in the Maine wilderness, our place probably doesn't fit the bill...but there are many other options in the area that would.

Other details to note so there are no surprises: The room does not have a TV but does have Wi-Fi. There are a set of gravel and wooden steps leading up to the entrance from the private driveway...if you are not able to lift your suitcases this could be a problem, though we are happy to assist with luggage if we are home. Also, our house is much the same as it was in the 1850s but the town around it has grown and the road outside the home is well-traveled. The same location that makes our place a very convenient stop also means that the home is not super secluded....but most guests report a very restful stay nonetheless.

Though best suited to two adults, small families with children who don't mind sleeping on the floor are welcome. Ample floor space for a couple of sleeping bags (not provided).

Guest access
Guests have access to their own driveway, entrance, entryway, bedroom, and bathroom. All of this is connected to but completely separate from our private home.
The large barn connected to the home is off-limits to guests.
Also we like to keep a strict boundary between our private home and the Airbnb, which means guests do not have access to our kitchen. However, there is a small mini-fridge in the room.

Other things to note
We recently rescued a kitten and it lives in our house, which is separated from the guest suite by 2 doors and a short hallway. We do our best to prevent any pet impact on the guest quarters by not allowing the kitten in the guest room, but just want to be honest in case any potential guests have sensitive cat allergies.
We do not have a dog.

Location

Belfast, Maine, United States

Waldo County has a thriving local foods movement - stop by the Belfast Co-op to check out their well-stocked shelves of local and natural foods, or visit one of our two wonderful farmers markets: the Belfast Farmer's Market (Fridays 9-1, year-round, outdoor in summer, indoor in winter) or the United Farmers Market of Maine (Saturdays 9-2, year-round, indoor). Take a walk along the Belfast Harbor Walk, check out the thriving downtown shops and art galleries, and end the evening with a seafood dinner outside on the deck at Young's Lobster Pound, overlooking lovely Penobscot Bay. (Heads up - Young's is BYOB!) Many other places of interest, both near and far - just ask!

I am a mother, online grad student, agricultural consultant and open water rower. Being out on the water is my passion, but I also delight in laughing with my two little girls, and cooking and eating delicious food. And once in a while I have time to sneak in a good book.

During your stay
I co-host with my partner Dameon. We are both available by text or email to answer any questions you have, and the Airbnb message system is probably the best way to reach us, as we're often out and about. The room is separated from the rest of our house by a short hallway - feel free to knock on our kitchen door if you have questions, but we won't hear it unless we happen to be right in the kitchen.
It is not necessary to check in personally but if we are at home we are glad to say hello and offer any help we can in terms of local food recommendations and outings - we truly love our little town and are happy to help others make the most of it.
