About this listing
Come to Africa and this lovely eco-build home full of character and features. A holiday base for a family and/or the adventurous. Beach, markets, dance, quads, fishing, food, music, culture, lagoon, fun, nightlife, fantastic and unique experience!
I have always been very interested in eco-build and sustainibility, so there is as much of these techniques and skills in the build as could be incorporated and the flat is built entirely by hand. It has been a very exciting project and actually, very experimental. It is a lovely space to live in. Every window has a lovely view and there are lots of quirky architectural delights.
There is wifi that works all the way up to the end of the garden, where the swimming pool is. The best cable TV, including BBC and TV5, movie and childrens channels (you can check out DSTV). There is a washing machine too.
Interaction with guests
I will be back in England for the 2 months, but we can always talk on if you need me. There are a few members of staff that live on site and keep the place running and a cleaner, who can prepare for you traditional Senegalese meals.
The house is a 1 minute walk to the beach, deserted in the mornings and full of the local community on Sundays taking their weekly promenade. The water is lovely for swimming and star gazing is a must!
It's 2 kilometers down the road to the village, with restaurants, bars and the supermarket, you will find everything you need. I will also leave contacts for you to have your chicken or monkfish, crabs, lobster, prawns, mussels and oysters delivered to you at home.
I live just outside the village, where everyone is very friendly. There is only one road, that leads through the village and out the other side to the lagoon, a nature reserve on the bird migrational path. Behind is the baobab forest, a vastness of natural beauty.
There is plenty to see and do, with the lagoon and its' stunning wildlife, quad biking in the baobab forests, horse riding on the beach, superb fishing, good nightlife in neighbouring town Saly and wonderful traditional art, dance and theatre for which I have the contacts to offer you should you wish to really make your holiday memorable.
There is plenty of public transport in the form of bush taxis...very cheap. You can also hire them independently, more expensive but you don't have to share and they will take you all the way to where you are going. It can also be agreed that with the house you may wish to rent my Discovery Land Rover. This can be arranged with or without a chauffeur. Transport to and from the airport can be arranged at 80USD. Also, you will need a visa that can be pre-enrolled on line and will be reqady for you at arrival in Dakar.
Other things to note
Many people choose to come to Senegal during the winter months... However, I have always found the "rainy" season more lovely, with fewer tourists, so the experience of the village is more real and relaxed. Also, the rain is wonderful. It does not rain all day long every day as you may imagine, there may be a whole week without rain. Generally the rain comes at night, bringing a welcome breeze and coolness. When it does rain during the day, it can be powerful, but is often for a few hours and followed by radiant sunshine. The land is green and luxurious and totally different to the dry months. In my opinion, the rainy season is the best of them all.
The park garden and pool are open to the public as a project that offers play opportunities to local children. There is also a large shaded restaurant area and bar at the entrance to the property, but during the summer months there is very little tourism which leaves the area calm and the project's restaurant will be closed. The bar is open till midnight and has a calm chilled out ambiance. This is a quiet project despite all it offers and the advantages are that you don't have to go far for a coctail or a beer, your children will be in a child orientated space, so while you relax at home, they are still having loads of fun.
The house runs on solar during the day, so the washing machine can only be used at night, once the electricity has been switched to the mains.
The house has a thatched roof, so please smoke outside.
The staff know their jobs, but will willingly help you with any of your needs. If you require services like them doing some shopping for you, cooking for you or looking after your children while you have an "adult" night out, then please give them a tip for their time. I can help you calculate this.
This home is nearly finished, it is not luxurious but very comfortable and homely and a pleasure to live in and I hope you enjoy the unusual designs of this eco-friendly home.

When you book this place, here’s where your review will show up!
I am born and raised in London and then fell in love with Senegal when I was here on holiday in 2000. I moved out here in 2006 and spent the last few years setting up a small project with a play area and activities for children. It still has a long way to go before it can provide all the services I have intended, but currently runs huge Christmas events for local schools where the kids have a big party, présents and lots of party food!
I run swimming classes, teach English and run private events. I also keep adults in mind and have just received my alcohol and food licence, allowing me to fully open the bar and restaurant. These are too new to be functioning fully, but I am working on it, running accoustic evenings and serving Thai food....I am the chef. I currently have yoga and guitare classes on site as well.
I am going home this summer after 4 years with my 4 children, who barely know England at all. I am going to visit my family and friends and see all their new babies and introduce them to mine. I can't wait!
I am also excited to put my eco-home on this site, and for you to come and live in it. I am putting in the finishing touches knowing you will love it . I will be leaving a book on the terrace with my own personal guide of things to do and local info to help you enjoy it here to the full, and I would like you to add to it any activities and restaurants etc. that you discover, for the benefit of my future guests.
