Beautifully decorated-well equipped stone cottage with wood burner set in a 50 acre private nature reserve with lake and yoga platform. Woodland and riverside walks, or cycle (borrow our bikes), Dartmoor, Fingle Woods. Excellent walking, biking, horse riding, golf, wildlife, best wild swim spot in South West, games barn.

The space
Butterdon is accessed via a stable door into a lounge with woodburning stove and dining area, a separate well equipped kitchen and a cloakroom with shower and toilet on the ground level. There is a smart TV with i-player and Netflix and an Echo show which can be used to listen to the radio and as a bluetooth speaker. There is an OS map in the bookcase so you can plan your walks in the local area and not get lost in the 45km of recently opened paths in Fingle Woods.

Upstairs there is one double bedroom and one triple bedroom, and a family bathroom with a bath. The triple bedroom has stairs up to a mezanine level. This is an ideal play area for older children or younger children under supervision, since it is accessed up steep stairs (there is a stair gate at the bottom). All beds have pocket sprung mattresses as we know from experience how an uncomfortable mattress can spoil your holiday.

The well equipped kitchen includes electric cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and cafetiere. There is access from the kitchen via a stable door to a south-facing private fenced garden with paved area and garden furniture.

A district biomass central heating and hot water system, alongside double glazing throughout and a woodburner make the cottage extremely cosy.

The cottage is beautifully decorated and all soft furnishings are home made, making it a really relaxing space. There are plenty of areas to relax in outside. You can relax in the private garden and watch the many birds that come to the feeder, you can take a stroll or sit on one the benches by the lake, walk up Sunny bank field to watch the sun set. Play table tennis/snooker/table football in the rustic games barn. Space for children to explore, make dens, games barn or large undercover barn for wet weather play.

We have a wood fired off grid hot tub. The hot tub can be used by up to 6 people at a time. The cost is either £50 (if you heat the hot tub yourself) or £65 (if we heat it for you) for an afternoon/evening session and includes towels and glasses. It’s in a secluded spot with great views down the Teign Gorge, beautiful at sunset and then when the sun goes down the stars and fairy lights come out. If you would like more information or to book please email me.

A communal washing machine is also available for use.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to wander around the lake and the 50 acres of private Nature Reserve at Clifford Barton. There is also a washing room with washing machine. Guests also are welcome to use the games barn with table tennis table, snooker table, table football, a rustic piano and a stage for any budding actors/actresses.

We have a bike pool of kids and adult bikes which guests are welcome to borrow (there is a great cycle along a track next to the River Teign to a riverside pub). We don't have helmets and other safety equipment so please bring your own.

Other things to note
The cottage is very well equipped with plenty of pots, utensils, microwave, fridge freezer. We are on hand in case there is anything you might need for your stay.

The cottage also has a radio/speaker that you can bluetooth music to from your device.

Myself, my husband Gavin and 3 kids live at Clifford Barton. We fell in love with the place in the summer of 2013, as a wonderful location to raise our family. Having renovated the 3 cottages to a high standard, we are delighted to invite others to come and enjoy the peace and quiet and rich natural environment that this part of the Country has to offer. We manage the 50 acres of woodland, meadows, lake and ponds for wildlife and its enjoyment. We are all on hand to help you make the most of your holiday and advise you of local walks, pubs, activities.
