Beautiful furnished 4 bed/2 bath guest house on 2 acres. Rural, secluded setting with views yet close to amenities of Silverton / New Denver area (within 5-10 min.) Adventure is out the doorstep with many backroads, trails and backcountry to access!

The space

We are unique by offering affordable getaways for families or groups in a mountain setting. We are 5-10 min. drive to the amazing beaches of Slocan Lake and near to access some of BC's most beautiful parks such as the Stunning Valhalla Provincial Park, Goat Range and Historical Sandon, Kokanee Glacier Park and there are trails to access just out the door! The space has been totally renovated and/or new from 2008 - Current and is very efficient and cozy all year round. Maintenance and cleanliness are of high standards, so you can expect comfort :) The area is remote, secluded and quiet but yet close to a secondary road for easy access and quick trips to amenities or adventure. You can bike or hike right from the property or for a quick drive there are many more attractions such as Hot Springs, Villages, Cafes and Restaurants, Markets and Artisan Shops.

Guest access

All guests are welcome to use our complimentary snowshoes to navigate on our 2 acres ( not for use in backcountry ) in the winter. There is also firewood supplied for the optional Earth Woodstove for a cozy atmosphere in the cooler months. We have high speed access and WiFi available as well as a washer and dryer on site. There is a TV, DVD Player and Stereo for your entertainment as well as an assortment of books and games. The guests have access to a loft office space if required and in summertime, there are berries and herbs to enjoy from the garden. The land is perfect for snowshoeing, light tour skiing, sliding or you can roast a hot dog in our outdoor firepit area. Summertime offers lots of flat, open green space for sports, a park like play area for children, shaded old growth forest spaces and a bbq from our spacious deck overlooking the mountains. Lots of seating for larger families or groups, sleeps 10 people comfortably with access to the land for privacy and more guests. Parking is open and easy access to the Mountain Cottage.

Interaction with guests

My interaction with guests depends on my schedule and time of year. I am usually very good at communication leading up to arrival with lots of tips and directions :) I do my best to be available upon arrival or departure. Depends on guests time arrival and how much they want to explore! In summertime I am more flexible to tour or show guests some attractions in the area. There are lots of maps and brochures for guests at the Mountain Cottage for them to self guide themselves as well.

Other things to note

Please note there is wildlife in the area, keep your gear and food contained. Close all doors and windows before departing as we don't want the resident squirrels moving into the house! Be respectful of noise, this is a rural quiet area and folks on acreages up here live here for that reason. Please note that this is generally a self catered or self guided trip for your family or group. ( Special requests are considered however, please inquire with me ) I have lived in the area full time for several years, know the community and area well :) Keep bbq clean after each use and tread lightly on the land and our piece of paradise.

Please respect that this is our pride and joy. This house has been built with love, tears and lots of hard work. Every stone, rock, piece of wood has been placed with care. We are happy to share this lovely space with guests but we ask you to take care of it as you would your own home, if not better. Our furniture and mattresses are newer and comfy, we have collected pieces to add to the feel of the Mountain Cottage and insist on safe and careful respect. Small children and pets are to be attended to at all times and cleaned up afterwards whether its outside or in the house. Pets are not allowed at all on any furniture, upstairs or on carpeted area. In cooler months they can come inside and sleep on tiled or rock areas. Damage deposits will be withheld and utilized if necessary at our decretion. If there are any complaints from neighbors or any misconduct whatsoever the tenants or guests will be asked to leave or terminate their stay immediatly with no refunds. We have had wonderful and respectful guests so far and would like to continue with the good karma and energy that is on the Mountain with our Getaway Cottage and the use of our land. Thanks.

This is a very clean and cozy house in the middle of the forest. Very secluded, but there are neighbors nearby. We had seven in our party this time around, and this place was more than comfortable for us all. Check in was super simple. There is a sound system, games, and lots of literature in the house. It could use some new skillets as the Teflon on the two in the house are quite damaged. If you are super picky about beds, you should know that the mattresses are pretty firm, which I liked, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.. Two of the beds are futon mattresses, one of which is directly on the floor. There was a boil advisory when we were there, so if that's a concern for you, make sure you bring some drinking water. There is also a data limit of 20GB on the internet, with overage charges, so if you have any data intensive work to do, plan accordingly. This particular rental also requires a separate contract/waiver that you have to fill out and sign outside of Airbnb. All in all, we were quite pleased with the place. It's in a really lovely spot.

The location is good. The house is large, as described and was a very comfortable fit our large group. We were told 24 hours before check-in that the sauna was not working and also that there would be a realtor and interested buyers coming to the house for a visit during our stay. Upon arrival, we had to sweep as there was broken glass on the kitchen floor and debris on the carpet. We did not know before arriving that there was a boil water advisory at the house so we were not able to properly prepare safe drinking water in advance.

Response from Monika:
Thanks for your comments, you are my first review under 5 stars! I apolijized for the sauna being closed, it needed some spring maintenance to operate safely and I never want to jeopardize guests safety. The property is for sale and I do appreciate the last minute showing and being so flexible and accomodating! It is hard time for me to properly clean and for this instance I was not able to check the quality as someone else had to prepare the house for you and your friends. My standards of cleanliness are high and the person I had asked to help did not do a proper job and I will mention it to him asap. It is unacceptable to arrive and have broken glass and debris such as you found! We post boil water advisory notes for legal reasons ( we are on a creek fed spring system with clean mountain water that is naturally filtered and generally very good!. Each spring there is a risk of run off and with the large snow pack, rains and slides in the are, we post the advisories for your benefit and always look out for the best interest of our guests. Thanks for coming and your stay at the Mountain Cottage, be well and safe journeys in your future. All the best, Monika

This cottage was in a winter wonderland.. so much beauty surrounding it and there is way to much to explore to only come once! I cant wait to come back to that area to adventure more! The cottage was so cozy, and easily fit my 9 friends and I! It had everything we needed and I have no complaints at all! Even though I didn't get to officially meet Monika, the phone calls we had .. I can tell she is a genuine person, super easy going to talk to and helpful to answer any questions! I would for sure stay here again! Thanks for the great experience and sharing your place with us :D

We stayed with a group of friends at Monika's cottage. This was our second time staying at this cottage. It is a very clean and spacious place which can easily accommodate up to 10 people. There is a nice wood fireplace in the house which gives it a warm charm (there is also electric heating system throughout the house). There are several nice hikes close by, and you can also get access to different hot springs in the area (60-90 minutes away). Monika is very helpful and friendly, and always available to answer questions.

Some of my favorite things to do are skiing, kayaking, gardening, writing and travelling! I love to meet new people and spend time with my children and family. I have always lived in or near the mountains and find I am most at home in this environment. I was born off the Coast of BC, grew up in the Rockies, and now in my adult years I have had the pleasure to experience the beauty of the Valhallas, Goat Range and now Rossland Ranges. Travels have brought me as far as the Swiss Alps and the Andes of Ecuador. I have a love of wild & medicinal plants and harvesting berries of all kind! One day I dream of building and living in an eco treehouse and being self sustainable, I would love to teach those skills to my own children and grandchildren!
