The Stable is self-contained with kitchenette and spacious toilet and shower room, comfortable double bed and seating area.

The Stable is within walking distance of shops, pubs, restaurants and attractions. We are on Offa's Dyke and Glyndwr's way and other circular walking routes.

The space
Downstairs we've included a kitchenette with hob and microwave so guests can make light meals. And we have a spacious toilet and shower room with hot water on demand. Upstairs there is a comfortable bedroom and living area. The whole building has central heating and is well insulated so you should be nice and cosy. There is also free Wifi.

There is car parking space for one car. We are off Severn Street and access to The Stable and Calder Cottage is down a single track lane. Access to this is through a flat roof arch high enough for transit vans to get through.

The Stable is around 140 years old and was built as part of the office complex for the Montgomery canal. We renovated the building in 2018 to create cosy accommodation for visitors.

The stable is partly made for Criggian Granite, a lovely green solid rock quarried locally. We've kept one wall exposed so that you can enjoy some of the local geology without getting cold and wet!

Where you’ll be

Powys, Wales, United Kingdom

The Stable is in the heart of Welshpool and within walking distance to shops, restaurants and local tourist attractions. You can have an excellent relaxing stay for a whole weekend without having to use your car.

Near by you can visit the spectacular Powys Castle Gardens, have a ride on the Welshpool and Llanfair Steam Railway or enjoy a gentle walk along the Montgomery Canal. A bit further afield there is Glansevern Gardens and Montgomery Castle. For a longer day out you can get to Barmouth, Cadair Idris, Centre for alternative technology ( Machynlleth, Llangollen Steam railway and Ludlow within and a 30 to 90 minutes drive.

We are surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Severn Valley and there are lots of walks you can do from Welshpool and afterwards have a nice G and T, or other tipple at the Royal Oak Hotel.

We have four supermarkets in town and also a good range of independent shops including butcher, hardware store, yarn shop , second hand book shop and clothes shops. For bargin hunters we have a market and good choice of charity shops. Just south of Welshpool is Coed y Dinas, a large garden centre and farm store. Brooks cycles is a superb bike shop and there are two music shops for all you budding musicians.

We have a good range of eating places from take away to restaurants. Try the award winning Andrew's Fish Bar for a good portion of fish and chips. For a big plate of food try the Raven pub or Cornstore. For somewhere quirky try the Vintage tea rooms. We like to have coffee and cake at Coco coffee shop.

Mike and I have lived or worked in the Welshpool area for 40 years. I am a knitting and crochet teacher and previously I worked for Britih Waterways on the Montgomery Canal (that passes through Welshpool). We both enjoy walking and dancing Argentine tango but not at the same time! We would love to welcome you to Welshpool and help you get the most out of your visit to this lovely part of Wales.
