This cozy Japanese-influenced cottage was built by the owners. It has shiplap ceilings, edge grain fir floors, and lots of custom wood touches. Full kitchen. The cottage looks out onto gardens and the property backs onto a park. You deserve this kind of comfort and serenity.
Many walking trails can be accessed right from the property.
"This place is a sanctuary," guests tell us. "So quiet and private."
You'll appreciate the sun and the wicker loveseat on the porch. You look out on our garden with many flowering trees, blooming shrubs and perennials.
The property is fenced to keep deer out. You will likely see some deer eyeing the plants through the fence.
Inside, there's a sitting area with comfy chairs and a built-in desk with a new typing chair. The bed is queen size, very comfortable, with luxury linens.
The kitchen has a four-burner stove with an oven, a bar fridge, dishes, pots and pans, kettle, toaster; everything you're likely to need. We include sugar, salt, good selection of spices, complimentary teas, coffee, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
There’s a stereo and wireless.
On the deck is a Weber gas barbeque.
A table and chairs are set up outside for al fresco meals. In really hot weather, the shade of a big cedar is a nice place to read or nap.
There’s a library in the cottage with murder mysteries and lots of books on writing. This is a wonderful space for one person and a terrific romantic getaway for two. It is not suitable for more than two adults. Couples with a baby are welcome to bring a playpen for baby to sleep in.
A quiet dog is welcome. We ask that s/he have nails clipped and up to date flea treatment. We have a young, friendly Golden Doodle so getting along well with other animals is a must.
We are eco-friendly, with a small footprint on a large lot. The property has a pond and a wetland. Plantings have been designed by a landscape architect. Many are bird and butterfly friendly, and fragrant. We use micro-irrigation and water-saving fixtures.
Guests have a private seating area under a big cedar. There's a table for al fresco dining and two comfortable chairs. There's always an area to sit outside in sun or in shade, depending on the temperature!
Interaction with guests
We live on the property in a house a hundred feet away and are available if you have questions. Your privacy is important to us: we understand guests come here to relax!
Other things to note
Ferries in the summer are often fully booked. If you are traveling from Vancouver with a vehicle, we strongly suggest reserving ahead of time. On long weekends, ferries will be completely full--please book early! Ferries from Victoria to Pender don’t take reservations, so getting there at least an hour before departure in summer will make sure you get on.
Please note that weekly rates are discounted from the daily rates. Due to bylaw regulations, we are unable to accept reservations of longer than 28 days.
No smoking in the cottage.
Please make sure to park in the parking spot and leave the driveway clear. Zoe, one of your hosts, is a first responder with the marine search and rescue unit on Pender Island, and may need to respond to a callout.
Please check with us if you have a pet. It must be able to get along with other dogs, not menace people, and be quiet.
For people who bring dogs, especially rescue dogs, be aware that unless you can guarantee your dog will remain silent, we will ask you to take your animal with you on outings. We absolutely cannot have a howling dog in the cottage.
