This cozy Japanese-influenced cottage was built by the owners. It has shiplap ceilings, edge grain fir floors, and lots of custom wood touches. Full kitchen. The cottage looks out onto gardens and the property backs onto a park. You deserve this kind of comfort and serenity.

Many walking trails can be accessed right from the property.

The space

"This place is a sanctuary," guests tell us. "So quiet and private."

You'll appreciate the sun and the wicker loveseat on the porch. You look out on our garden with many flowering trees, blooming shrubs and perennials.

The property is fenced to keep deer out. You will likely see some deer eyeing the plants through the fence.

Inside, there's a sitting area with comfy chairs and a built-in desk with a new typing chair. The bed is queen size, very comfortable, with luxury linens.

The kitchen has a four-burner stove with an oven, a bar fridge, dishes, pots and pans, kettle, toaster; everything you're likely to need. We include sugar, salt, good selection of spices, complimentary teas, coffee, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

There’s a stereo and wireless.

On the deck is a Weber gas barbeque.

A table and chairs are set up outside for al fresco meals. In really hot weather, the shade of a big cedar is a nice place to read or nap.

There’s a library in the cottage with murder mysteries and lots of books on writing. This is a wonderful space for one person and a terrific romantic getaway for two. It is not suitable for more than two adults. Couples with a baby are welcome to bring a playpen for baby to sleep in.

A quiet dog is welcome. We ask that s/he have nails clipped and up to date flea treatment. We have a young, friendly Golden Doodle so getting along well with other animals is a must.

We are eco-friendly, with a small footprint on a large lot. The property has a pond and a wetland. Plantings have been designed by a landscape architect. Many are bird and butterfly friendly, and fragrant. We use micro-irrigation and water-saving fixtures.

Guest access

Guests have a private seating area under a big cedar. There's a table for al fresco dining and two comfortable chairs. There's always an area to sit outside in sun or in shade, depending on the temperature!

Interaction with guests

We live on the property in a house a hundred feet away and are available if you have questions. Your privacy is important to us: we understand guests come here to relax!

Other things to note

Ferries in the summer are often fully booked. If you are traveling from Vancouver with a vehicle, we strongly suggest reserving ahead of time. We really enjoyed our stay at Garnet's place on Pender. The cabin is very private, clean and is a great place to relax for a few nights without the distractions of the city. Garnet and his wife were very acommodating and made us feel very welcome during our first visit to the island. Highly recommend!

Incredible cottage on pender. The hosts, and their dog kira, were so welcoming. The cottage itself is close to a number of hiking trails and Magic Lake. We will definitely be back!

This is a great place to stay on Pender Island, I just wish I could have stayed longer than the six nights. The cottage is well equipped, has a very nice deck and pretty garden which my dog was allowed to enjoy. Zoe and Garnet are great hosts and made me feel at home right away, they gave good information on the Island and took me on a Sunday morning hike around one of the lakes which I appreciated. I intend to return to North Star when possible as it suited me so well.

Lovely clean and cozy cottage. Very central location. Beautiful property. We will be back next time we are on Pender!

I am a retired carpenter who reads a great deal. I like to go for a walk every day with our Golden Doodle. We enjoy cooking and working around our place with always some new project on the go.
