About this listing

Casa Quintino is a lovingly restored farmhouse which combines rustic charm with modern amenities. A truly unique spot, perfect for groups of friends, romantic weekends & family gatherings.

It is situated one hour equidistant between Florence, Sienna, Pisa, and 25 minutes from Volterra & San Gimignano.

You will need your own car as there is no public transport nearby.

Expect spectacular views over unspoiled Tuscan hills.

The space

Casa Quintino is a lovingly restored farmhouse and family home, with an eclectic taste which merges ethnic African artifacts with rustic decor. We have a library of English books, original paintings and piano, and it is an ideal spot for creative people who like to get away from it all to read, write or paint or play music.

Each large room (4x4 meters) is furnished with Tuscan beds with new anti allergic 'memory foam' mattresses. We have central heating for winter stays and in summer the rooms are cooled with ceiling fans. Mosquito netting on all windows make for a sound sleep in the velvet silence of a Tuscan night, far from any man-made sounds. If you are lucky, in June you may even hear a nightingale sing. Views from all rooms are magnificent over the rolling hills to Volterra. At the same time we are surrounded by forests so deer and wild boar can be seen from your window and porcupines, pine martins visit at night. One week in June the valley lights up with fireflies, and in summer we are visited by Africa Hoopoes. It is pure magic. We have a small splash pool to cool off in the garden, mainly for kids to enjoy. Chill out with a good book and bottle of local wine under the gazebo in a magic circle of cypresses. There is a barbecue that is perfect for evening meals while watching the moon rise. The long patio is ideal for large celebrations all fresco, whilst inside the large 'railway sleeper ' teak table seats eight people. The kitchen is generously equipped for catering if you have a large celebration. If you are looking for a wedding venue, Casa Quintino is a magical place to get married and we can help you with wedding planning and catering!

Guest access

Casa Quintino accommodates 6 people comfortably with one extra fold out bed. Make yourself at home and enjoy time on the patio taking in the long peaceful views, wander around the lovely grounds and garden with kids splash pool and natural pond, and enjoy the wealth of wild flowers in spring.

During summer, Casa Quintino is rented to only one group at a time, so you have the whole property with no shared space or garden with other guests. This makes for memorable private holiday shared only with friends and family.

B+B Option: The owners are sometimes in residence from Mid July to October 2017 in a a separate apartment discreet apartment with its own access. Casa Quintino is then rented as an 'affitte camera' (i.e. per room) and during this period we can welcome same day bookings from cyclists, hikers, pilgrims or impromptu travelers and can provide basic meals.

Interaction with guests

1st July - 15th August. After a welcome by the Italian manageress Cristina or her English husband, Ben, you will have the whole property to your own party. They will only be around in case of emergency. They can give advise on local shopping and attractions, and may stock up the fridge in advance if arranged.

As the family will be in residence in self contained apartment between mid August and mid October, we do not offer the whole property for rental.

Instead you can book instantly same day for our large ground floor apartment with one large bedroom with separate entrance at Euro 90 per night or at a rate of Euro 75 per room for two extra double rooms.

Other things to note

Between us we speak English, French and Italian.

Quintino is at the end of a graveled farm road but most hire cars and their drivers manage it without problem. It is graded each year but can get slippery in the winter months in the snow.

There are no street lights along this farm road but the house itself and surrounds are well lit .

We are 20 minutes from nearest shops in Gambassi Terme for provisions so all food should be purchased before arrival. Stock up and then relax.

Casa Quintino is not ideal for toddlers, elderly, infirm or disabled, as there are uneven surfaces, banks and stairs. Children must be supervised at all times.

The house is perfect for true nature lovers who enjoy rural living. If you are expecting an insect free sterile environment then Quintino is not for you.

If you want an authentic Tuscan experience, this is your place! The farmhouse is amazing and the view is unbelievable! Our son and dog had a great time wondering around the huge yard. This place is out in the middle of nowhere and offers all the relaxation and privacy you could want. Our family loved this house and we were sad to leave. The hosts are fantastic and provided excellent communication and were super friendly. I would definitely recommend this house!

Paradise on earth! As everybody in all orher review; the view is breath taking! The house is lovely and feels like a real home. The garden is beautifull and our kids 8 & 11 didn't need any toys; their immagination and this garden were enough to keep them buzzy all day long! Love it! Love to go back! The perfect place to relax. Thank you for letting us share your amazing paradise!

If I could give this place 10 stars for location and scenery I would! This must be the most beautiful view in Tuscany - rolling green hills, cypress trees, the odd farmhouse in the valley, and the lights of Volterra on the hills in the far distance. The house has plenty of space for a large family, and we enjoyed big family dinners around the kitchen table and out on the patio in the spring sunshine. This is rural Tuscany at its best, and yet over a long weekend we managed to fit in trips to Volterra, San Gimingnano, Florence, Siena and Pisa. Thank you, Anthony and Juliet, for hosting us in your beautiful home!

Having spent the Easter weekend at Casa Quintino in a family group with ages ranging from 9 to 70+, everybody had a fantastic time. Glorious weather, views to die for, complete and utter peace and quiet. Add to that the proximity to Volterra and San Gimignano (both 30 mins away), Siena, Florence and Pisa (all 1 to 1.5 hrs away) for tourist attractions and shopping, all of which we visited, and you have the best of both worlds – what more could one want. For a fantastic Tuscany meal, we strongly recommend Molina D’Era, 12 minutes away by car – you can find it on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps. This is nature as it should be. If you’re expecting street lights, tarred roads, shops and neighbours, this is not the place for you. If you want nature in the raw and time to lay back, relax and reflect, I cannot recommend it more. Despite one of our group missing their flight and, more importantly, the holder of the keys, after contacting the owners, a spare set was located and hand delivered to ensure we could access the property. What service!

We had a lovely time at the Casa Quintino and it met our needs perfectly. Thank you Juliet for renting us the place and many thanks to Cristina and her husband who waited for us at a nearby hotel and led us to the house. It was a first time for us staying in such a remote place so the solitude was a little unnerving at first. The surrounding landscape is stunning and the house itself is cosy and well equiped. We had a small thunderstorm very early one morning and it was nice to stay in bed and listen to the thunder and the rain outside. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in a peaceful place with lots of privacy.

Thank you Shini for your enthusiasm for our home. Your review will help select future visitors who will expect it to be off the beaten track as I know it can be almost too quiet for some, but perfect fro those who want a real digital detox! Welcome back again.

We spend a wonderful week at Casa Quintino which is a real authentic tuscan house. It was very noticeable that it used to be a family warm and cosy home. There is a splendid vew and a well mantained garden. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen fully equiped. It is a great place for a quiet vacation for peace and nature seekers. Cristina the agent was very nice, friendly and always ready to help us during the week. We want to emphasize that it could be a little dissapointing for people who look for a five stars hotel standards. We loved to be in an isolated house on the edge of the forest and we really enjoyed meeting wild boars and deers on our driving path back home in the evenings.

Response from Juliet:
Thank you for your kind words and we are so happy you appreciated the individuality of our family home and that your son enjoyed playing the piano. We are also glad you noticed the beds as the mattresses are all new anti-allergic so you were the first to enjoy them! It is great that you saw some wild life as well.

Cristina met us at a nearby hotel so we could follow her to the very remote Casa Quintino. We had rental cars and it is located about 10 minutes down a pretty rough gravel road. To be honest I was a little bit worried about a flat tire/getting stuck but everything worked out fine. Casa Quintino is an absolutely beautiful old farmhouse with lovely gardens and a stunning view of Tuscany. I mean stunning view! I couldn't stop looking outside and taking pictures because you can see for miles and miles. Call me a city slicker, but it is definitely a location only for extreme nature lovers. We loved the thought of spending time in an authentic Tuscan countryside location (which it absolutely is), but did not expect to find so many bugs inside the house. We found some scorpions inside the house before going to sleep which was pretty unsettling to say the least. The doors in the downstairs section of the farmhouse have wide gaps below them, so insects can easily come inside. There was a warning poster on the bulletin board among the other information about the house and vicinity, but we would have preferred knowing about the potential dangers prior to deciding to stay there. Considering how beautiful the property is, it would have been nicer if we felt more comfortable about spending time outside. Also, there was no air conditioning that I could find in the home. It was pretty cool at night so it wasn't a problem, but that was inaccurately listed. It is an absolutely beautiful place to stay for those who are not bothered by scorpions, snakes and tiger mosquitos.
