Interaction with guests
We are happy to interact with our guests as they wish, but respect their privacy when desired.
Our neighbors are friendly and welcoming, our houses and yards tidy and well-kept, and we have several beautiful antique, country, bridal and Victorian shops - even a spa. It's a great place to walk or bicycle. We're a small town with all the necessary comforts.
You'll need a car, bicycle or to enjoy walking.
Other things to note
I do charge sales tax on arrival since I am a state licensed B&B. The good news is, our total tax is only 5%, so it's minimal. I've owned The Blue Belle Inn for 25 years. It, and the town we're in, are treasures. Both are a charming, comfortable way to return to your small town roots. I'm a published author of 10 books - who knows? If you make a big impression, you may end up in the next!
We don't allow pets (sorry - we have allergies!) and we're a no smoking house. We've never had to worry about guests behaving badly - we just want you to feel at home and be able to relax and have fun.

Twenty-two years ago, I bought a dilapidated Victorian house in northern Iowa so I could move home and be nearer my family. I rescued an amazing but very run-down old house from the bulldozer’s grips and turned it into a bed and breakfast and tea house.
Before that, I lived in Colorado Springs, CO, and before that, Augsburg, Germany. I attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL and spent one life-changing summer in Bar Harbor, Maine. I grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota.
After 12 years of writing romance novels late at night when I couldn’t sleep (mostly because I was so keyed up from working 12 hour days at my B&B), I met and married my real-life, romantic hero, Mark Decker, a pastor. I enjoy playing the piano with the worship team at church, needlepointing, photography, renovating and decorating historic houses, traveling, and going on weekly adventures with my nieces and nephew.
I live in 2 different houses, 85 miles apart, and write on the run whenever I have a spare minute. “Sweet William", a Wildflowers of Scotland novel, is my ninth book to be published by Indigo Sea Press, a mid-sized, independent press.
