The Mill is a truly unique place to stay in Askerswell, which is situated in the Dorset countryside off the beaten track but just a 10 minute drive to the nearest beach at West Bay and the market town of Bridport.

The Mill is a watermill (not a windmill) which has been beautifully restored to enable guests to stay and is completely safe for children with viewing areas. The watermill is still working and can be turned on upon request. There is a large shared garden teaming with wildlife.

The space
The Mill is arranged on three floors. The bin floor (where the finished flour was weighed and bagged) is now a bedroom, dining and kitchen area.
The stone floor (where the mill stones grind the corn) is now the living room and viewing area and the sack floor (where the sacks of corn were hoisted into the grain hoppers) is now the master bedroom with en-suite and viewing area.

Living Area

Lounge with seating for six with cosy log burner, viewing screen of the mill stones and the original machinery. There is a display case with old documents which date back to 1760 and artifacts found on the site and original fire insurance certificates dating back to 1859. There is a freeview TV, DVD and CD players and iPod dock.

Master Bedroom One

Double bed with wardrobe, curtained bathing with free standing Victorian roll top bath and heated towel rail. Ensuite in bedroom includes separate WC and bath (this is the 2nd bathroom). Vaulted ceilings with original beams and machinery viewing area. A cot is available.

Bedroom Two

Double with built in wardrobe and freeview TV and is close to the main downstairs bathroom.

Bedroom Three

Twin with built in wardrobe and balcony overlooking machinery in entrance lobby.

Fully tiled, modern wet room with large shower area, basin, and heated towel rail and is adjacent to Bedroom 2 on the ground floor.

Kitchen and Dining Area

A fully equipped hand-made oak kitchen with all new appliances – washing machine/drier, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, and beautiful red electric AGA.

Other Information

Iron, ironing board, high chair, and vacuum cleaner are available at the Mill.
Bedroom linen, hand/bath and tea towels all provided but please bring your own beach/swimming towels and cot linen.
Stair gates can be fitted on the 1st and 2nd floors.

Sorry, Pets are not permitted.

The Mill overlooks the leat and orchard with some spectacular views across the countryside, especially from the 2nd floor. There is an area with seating in the orchard by the mill pond set aside for barbequeing.

The large garden which has swings, slide and zip wire (zip wire use only with parental agreement) is shared with The Cider Barn.

There is a large parking area with space for 3 cars.

Wifi at The Mill is excellent. Considerable investment had been made into improving this in early 2021. You may see from earlier reviews this was weak but this is now not the case.
