About this listing

Quintessential 1950's lake cabin on quiet Goose Lake has 4 bedrooms, 2 baths on 2 levels. Grill, canoe, make a fire in the firepit and relax in the country only 25 minutes from the Dells and one hour from Madison. Great for multi-family gatherings!

The space

Goose Lake is a great lake for fishing. The northern part of the lake is a wildlife preserve, and is mostly undeveloped. You'll see (and hear) tons of birds, including Sandhill Cranes. It's not much of a swimming lake, however, although you can certainly wade around in front of our house, and there's a swimming area near the boat launch on the east side of the lake.
Our property abuts a trail that used to lead to the footbridge to "Gilligan's Island", a private island owned by the area property owners. Alas, they took the footbridge down in early 2016 so now you have to canoe to access the island.
We have a Wii hooked up to a tv downstairs, along with games and DVDs if you need an electronic fix. Sorry, no wi-fi, though!

Guest access

We have a good quality 17" canoe for you to use, plus plenty of life jackets. We also have a variety of lawn games and indoor games for people to play. Feel free to use it all!

Interaction with guests

I live in Madison, about an hour away, so I won't interact much with guests but am always available via phone if they have questions.

Other things to note

We do require a three-night minimum stay.
There is an extra cleaning fee of $90 in addition to the nightly rental.

My family and I often stay here when it's not booked, so there are things there that we use (condiments, spices, toiletries, cooking staples, etc.). People are more than welcome to use anything they find there. I only ask that they not take anything when they leave.
Guests need to separate food and paper garbage from aluminum cans and bottle recyclables. They also need to use only the clear garbage bags that we supply Our waste management will not pick up any garbage that hasn't kept cans and bottles separated or isn't in the "approve" bags. If my garbage isn't picked up, the raccoons get in and have a huge raccoon feast and we spend hours picking up garbage from the front yard.
Minimum age for renters is 21, please!
Also, please do not leave a big greasy pile of dishes in the sink when you leave. That's not cool.

This is a great place to get away, be on the water and enjoy the outdoors! Quiet area with a great/large yard. Fire pit and canoe are a plus. There is a small beach by the water or a much nicer shared beach a short walk away. The kitchen is well equipt and there's a large table for meals. Bedrooms are tight (we had 8 adults/2 small children) and the mattresses aren't the most comfortable, but we had enough space with the four bedrooms. Central A/C was a plus for our trip as it was very hot outside. Staci was very responsive to issues that arose during our stay and in planning prior to the trip.

We had a good weekend at Beech Street Retreat. Although, the house was quite dirty. There were spiders in the corners of the bathroom, earwig and moths in the basement, and the bedrooms downstairs smelled musty. Some of our people had issues with their allergies due to this fact. We took it upon ourselves to debug/de-spider everything. It's a tough fit for our family, we had 9 adults and 3 children. We should've done more research on our part because there were only 4 bedrooms when should've booked a place with 5. The bunk beds are meant for children (not sturdy enough for adults) on the top, so we ended up pushing 2 of the couches together in the basement for one couple. It'd be good set up for less adults and more children. We did enjoy being walking distance to the beach and driving distance to the Dells (25-30 mins). The canoe and fire pit were awesome. But, we were there over the 4th of July weekend and the neighbors were shooting fireworks off a little too close for comfort.

This was a great place to stay. My brother's family and mine all stayed here while visiting the Dells. The kids were able to play with each other in the evenings instead of being in different hotel rooms and the adults could plan together and help with all the kids. Great time

Great place to stay. It's near the Dells with a great campfire spot near the lake.

Staci was very responsive to our questions to help make trip planning as easy as possible. For those looking to hit the Dells, it is about 35 minutes north of the area. Overall the stay met our needs, but cleanliness could have been improved and the beds were old and uncomfortable. If someone is looking for a rustic cabin for a fishing, this fits the bill. But with the commute and full days of activities at the Dells we did not get the opportunity to take advantage of all the opportunities the cabin had to offer.
