About this listing

Enjoy this cosy double room with glorious views to the South Downs

The space

The village lies at the foot of the legendary landmark of Devil's Dyke, now part of the South Downs National Park. The South Downs Way is about half a mile away and runs along the Devils Dyke. This is a wonderland for walkers and cyclists with many many challenging or more leisurely walks and rides on the doorstep. Devils Dyke is a famous site for hangliding and paragliding - spellbinding to watch even as a non-participant.

Poynings is a great base for exploring the local countryside with Brighton 6 miles South, Lewes 10 miles East, Worthing 10 miles West. Beautiful and historic towns such as Chichester and Arundel are within easy reach, London is an hour by train and Gatwick approx 30 minutes by road.

There are two pubs within easy reach - one a short stumble away and one in the next village - approximately a mile. Both serve good food and beer.
All bed linen and towels are provided. WIFI available.

The price includes a continental breakfast provided in the spacious kitchen or outside if the weather permits. There are also tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

I have two double rooms available one on this listing and one under South Downs Way double room. A further large room which can be used as a family room (one double bed and two single Z-beds) is available on request.

Jill's house is in a pretty village with scenic walks and a great pub nearby. Jill is a very attentive and amiable host. It was a pleasure to stay at her home.

We had such a lovely time staying at Jill's place. It's the perfect getaway only a couple of hours away from London. The room has gorgeous views and Jill makes a great breakfast. The house is a good starting point for walks in the South Downs. Would love to return!

We stayed at Jill's house for one night. The house is in a lovely setting, the bedroom and en suite bathroom were comfortable and very clean. Jill was a great host, helping us with our itinerary and the continental breakfast was very much appreciated. I would warmly recommend her.

Jill's place is the old village Post Office. It's right in the centre of the village, a few minutes walk from the pub. The rooms are all large, bright, clean and airy with great views, the room at the front looks out over the village, the others look up the hill to Devil's Dyke. It's all very pretty and scenic. There are loads of beautiful countryside walks just outside the door. My husband was working in Hove and it only took him 10 minutes to drive there, so it was a really convenient location. Jill provided a lovely breakfast with croissants, freshly made coffee and fresh fruit. She was happy for us to make tea for ourselves in the kitchen and potter about the house. Both Jill and her husband were really welcoming, they made us feel genuinely at home. The rooms are very reasonably priced. We hope to be back again, later in the year.

I had the most wonderful week staying at Jill's whilst on business. The welcome was extremely homely and continued throughout the week. I felt very much at home and both Jill and Roger are wonderful, entertaining genuine hosts. I can not recommend their hospitality enough.

Jill was a fantastic host and very welcoming. The room had a beautiful view and was very cosy. Will definitely visit again if only for delicious home made marmalade

Jill and her husband were such fabulous hosts, we felt very welcome in their home. The place is beautiful with amazing views and in a lovely little village. We loved the room - tea and coffee making facilities, biscuits, comfy bed and an en-suite, there wasn't anything else we could ask for. Breakfast was yummy - croissants, ham, cheese and good bread, also great conversation at the breakfast table as another family were also staying at Jill's. Jill was also so kind in making us a packed lunch the day we left, as there weren't going to be many shops on our hike. The village Poynings has a pub a couple of minutes walk away that serves great food and has a big beer garden. Location of the house is also right at the bottom's of Devil's Dyke - really stunning scenery to check out! Jill's house was warm and full of life and it was our favourite stop on our walk across the South Downs Way. We hope to return one day!
