The space

At an altitude of 2,200+ feet, this true "mountain top" home features expansive views of the Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River, and the town of Luray below. Modern amenities: wifi and full cell phone service.

Enjoy the views from three decks with rocking chairs and table/chairs for dining. It's the perfect place to relax and take in the beauty of the area.

Besides the views, the star of the home is the grand fireplace made from local stone. The stone fireplace is the focal point of this open concept home, which features tons of large windows and skylights.

This unique home accommodates up to 6 guests with one queen bed, one full bed, and one full sleeper sofa. All linens included - high quality and hypoallergenic. Brand new bathroom in 2015.

Beyond the spacious dining and living rooms, you'll find the great room with cathedral ceilings, windows all around, and direct access to two of the decks. From the sleeper sofa in the great room, enjoy looking at the stars as you fall asleep and taking in the sunrise as you wake up.

There are two grills - a charcoal grill and gas grill. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to create your favorite gourmet meal.

Firewood is provided from October 1 - March 31 if you would like to use the fireplace. Electric heat is available as well.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire main house. Guests cannot access the locked storage area below the house.

There is wifi and Apple TV for guest use. The TV has a DVD player, but no cable. A large assortment of DVDs is provided, but feel free to bring your own. There are also lots of card and board games for all ages - kids and adults.

Interaction with guests

We will not be present during your stay, however we are available to answer any questions.

Other things to note

I can make suggestions for companies in the area that offer various activities including canoeing, horseback riding, ATV's, and many other outdoor activities. Or, just explore on your own!

All wheel or 4 wheel drive strongly suggested when snow or bad weather is expected. The last ¼ mile is a gravel road (private driveway).

Mountain Top Getaway is a licensed rental. Nightly rate includes state and county lodging taxes.

There is no water source on the mountain so water is delivered. Please understand I must know the number of guests so I can plan the water deliveries accordingly. Thank you!

House Rules

Check out by 12PM (noon)
Self check-in with smart lock

Three night minimum for holidays. Two night minimum all other times.

Before you book, please make sure you understand the house's layout and that it will work for your group (especially if you are a group of 6). One bedroom is completely private, one bedroom is part of the "open plan" of the house and does not provide privacy from the living room. The sofa bed is also in a common area. The photos show the layout clearly (specifically photo #17) and I've also included a floor plan for further clarity.

Dogs accepted on a case-by-case basis. Please message me to make arrangements.

Smoking allowed only outdoors, never inside. Please smoke responsibly - do not throw cigarettes over the deck as the house is surrounded by trees (worst case it could start a fire).

I sincerely ask that you please contact me during your stay if you need anything, have questions, or if there's an issue at the house. I take pride in my home and it's very important to me that you enjoy your stay. Most of the time, things are quick and simple to resolve. For example: "we weren't able to grill because the propane was empty" could have been easily fixed since I have a second one as backup. I'm always available by phone, text, email, or Airbnb app. I'll also provide you with a list of back-up contacts who know the house in case you can't reach me.

This is a wonderful place to stay. The views are fantastic, particularly if you get up early to watch the sunrise which you can do without even getting out of your pyjamas. The cabin has lots of character and the games and DVDs were appreciated when we just wanted to stay in. We enjoyed the walk along the Kennedy trail which starts very close to the cabin and would also recommend the canopy zip-wire in Luray. The gas barbeque was great, though we did need to clean it before we used it. Olivia was very helpful in providing information and responding to any questions we had really promptly.

The views are spectacular from the house and the area is great if you want to get away from it all and relax. There are some really good walking/running trails accessible straight from the house and its definitely worth a trip up to the observation point at Kennedy Peak. The sunrise in the morning is spectacular over the mountains and worth getting up early for. The house is well equipped, clean and gives you an authentic taste of Virginia living. Its also huge. Highly recommended

As others have said, the views and location are amazing. As a first time visitors to the Shenandoah valley and Blue Ridge mountains we were blown away by how beautiful and spectacular the area is. That said, the house was comfortable and cosy so very difficult to stir ourselves to go out some mornings... Olivia was an efficient and communicative host and was most helpful.

The views from this house are amazing! We had a great stay here with our 3 kids. Highlights were the views and the cool main room, complete with full bearskin rug. I feel its more of a one bed than a two as one bed and the sofa bed are in the lounge-so you would want to know your friends really well! It's also worth noting that the cabin is very remote so water is not on the mains - there is therefore no dishwasher or washing machine. Also as its in a bear area you cannot put any rubbish outside. We were there for 6 nights with 5 of us and the rubbish really built up (I was grateful none of our kids were still in nappies! ) There is a fabulous BBQ (gas and normal)with two outside eating areas. Apple TV and wifi as well as lots of games to entertain you. We had a few problems working things and one of the fans was broken and Olivia the host was amazing at getting back to us really quickly and getting her contractor out, so we felt well looked after. We did some great trips including the caverns, yogi bear campsite swimming pool, rafting on the river and skyline drive.

This was our first use of AirB&B away from the UK and I have been amazed at the quick response time and the information provided fantastic! The house was great for our family of four we loved the mountain setting the views were to die for! We cooked in a couple of nights and there was everything we needed! We also did the hike from the house to Kennedys Peak which was stunning! Luray has a great ice cream shop and we did two days on the skyline drive. This house was a perfect place up in the clouds for our first visit to Virginia!

Like everyone has said before us, the view here is unbelievably beautiful. You are completely tucked away and surrounded by nature and it was an incredible experience. Olivia was helpful and very easy to communicate with.

I was born and raised in Washington, DC, spending many of my childhood weekends in Luray, VA. I've been going to Luray since I was born and most of my dad's family is still in that area. I want to give others the chance to have memorable experiences at the home that has given me so many of my own. It's a truly special place and I sincerely hope you will feel the same way after staying there. I also host in two listings here in DC.
