There are many restaurants nearby and in surrounding villages, plus chemists, post offices, taxis, banks with cash points and small supermarkets. Within 5 minutes' drive you reach Calheta with its protected beach of golden sand, a large marina offering dolphin/whale watching excursions and deep sea fishing boats for charter, a hotel, big supermarket, art gallery sugar cane factory and good choice of restaurants; or 15 minutes will bring you to the laurel, levada and waterfall wonderland of Rabaçal and the wide open expanses of the Paul da Serra - fantastic walking terrain. Car hire is necessary to enjoy all that this area has to offer and to explore the beautiful sub-tropical island of Madeira.

Rosa is a great host and the cottage is absolutely adorable. For us the location was perfect - far away from crowded tourist places, but at the same time just a few minutes away from any amenities you might need. The view from the terrace is absolutely amazing. The kitchen is very well equipped and the house in general offers great values for money. Just one piece of advice, if you plan to visit in the winter months, be sure to bring some warm socks, because it can sometimes get a bit chilly inside:)

Rosa is the perfect host: Communication was fast and friendly at every time, a lot of helpful information was given in advance and during the welcome we got every explanation and perfect answers to all of our questions, Rosa is a friendly "living encyclopedia"! Thank you so much! Meeting on the parking-place and taking us the way to the house is very helpful. The drive-up to the house really prepares you for the steep roads at Madeira, it was a challenge, but also fun and always successful with our little car. The location of the house is quite perfect: Between bananas and wine gardens away from the streets with a very marvellous view over the village arco calheta, from the mountains to the sea, sun from the morning till late afternoon. And a local supermarket, bars, cafes in walking distance (although a car is really recommended for the stay)! The house itself is a "room wonder": tiny from the outside, but really spacious inside and very well equipped. We often used the kitchen for cooking and living (as November-evenings are sometimes too cold for sitting on the balconies). The location is perfect to discover the west of Madeira. Paul da Serra and Rabacal for walkings are very close-by and also the North is not far via Encumeada tunnel. We loved the possibility to stay in the south or moving to the north, depending from the weather and the interests for the day. We enjoyed our stay at Madeira and especially in this nice and quite location!

We have really enjoyed our stay at this sunny cottage. The simple house is more spacious than photos. It is well equipped with everything we need. We have spent quite a lot of times in the house to sit in the terrace and read books. It was really relaxing. The area of Calheta and around has many beautiful walking paths. And it is also very easy to get to other areas by car. And Rosa is also very friendly and gave us all information we'd need. We have had a wonderful stay.

Rosa was a dream. She patiently helped us on more than one occasion through all the twists and turns of Calheta life. Our stay was much more pleasant thanks to her. The neighborhood was extremely safe and we found the locals to be very friendly and helpful.

Rosa has been really helpful since the first moment. She helped us getting to the cottage and giving us some ideas to do in Madeira, also there was a delicious wine waiting for us at home :) The place is really quiet and have an awesome view of Calheta and have everything you could need for your holidays. The best way to explore the island and then come back home for relax!
