Peaceful self-contained studio apartment adjoining owners' eco-house set in its own woodland and wild meadows with spectacular sea views from garden. Beautiful walks to Lyme (2 miles) & River Cottage (1 mile). Stunning retreat in nature. Walkers/bird-lovers/foodies paradise. 1 of 2 studios with plenty of outside space. This is the larger of the 2 with a bath instead of a shower, a bigger kitchen and distinct areas for kitchen and bedroom.

The space
A former artist's studio, the apartment is a modern airy space within a wild, woodland setting. It has been newly decorated (and redecorated January 2017) throughout and has a particularly spacious bathroom with a large comfortable bath and views out to the woods to the south and a wild flower bank and natural spring to the west. It is perfectly located for some truly wonderful walks: the East Devon Way adjoins the property and there are several beautiful routes through the countryside to Lyme Regis, including the River Way along the River Lyme into the centre of town. It's about an hour's walk to the Cobb or to the Town Mill cluster of shops, restaurants and galleries or 10 minutes' drive. You can have a great day on the beach or walking and then come home to the seclusion of the woods and meadows. We have some of the best bird and wildlife around. You will hear owls calling in the evenings and maybe spot a badger snuffling about in the garden. Bird-feeders are positioned opposite the bedroom and bathroom windows so you can watch in comfort. We are in the process of restoring the wild meadows and have a mass of wild orchids, bluebells, foxgloves and native daffodils, depending on the time of year. There are views of Lyme Bay and the island of Portland from the top meadow where a bench is provided for your use.

The room is designed mainly for 2 people but we do have a z-bed (fold-out bed) to accommodate an extra person.

The main bed is a king-size with a slatted base and a soft reflex foam mattress. The bedlinen is 100% Egyptian cotton.

We now have a new TV for the room and a music system with a cable to plug in your phone/ipod. There is a DVD player in the room.

This is a fantastic setting for a holiday with the gorgeous and wild beaches of East Devon and West Dorset on the doorstep, the outstanding Jurassic Coast with its National Trust walks, fossil hunting, fishing, sailing and kayaking opportunities, and a huge network of footpaths and bridleways immediately accessible from the house. It is also foodie heaven. River Cottage HQ at Park Farm is just the other side of the woods and can be reached by road or on foot. It's about 30/40 mins walk up the lane and through the woods. The more informal River Cottage Canteen is just 2 miles away in Axminster. In Lyme Regis (also 2 miles) is Mark Hix's Oyster House with knock-out views across the bay to Portland and also the Harbour Inn right on the front which does fantastic fish and has a seating area on the beach. There are lots of lovely bakeries and coffee spots, a theatre and many quirky independent shops. Lyme Regis, Axminster, Bridport and Seaton are all great little towns with their own characters.

Jules is a Life Coach, NLP therapist and writer based at home and Chris works in London about 4 days a week. We have two daughters and a toy poodle/maltese x called Ponyo. We also share the garden, meadows and woods with a multitude of wildlife including deer and wonderful birds including some some quite rare ones. We love good food, art and film; walking, nature, music and books. It's a pleasure to be an airbnb superhost and welcome people here from all over the world. We like to make sure our guests are super comfortable and well-equipped with maps and information so they can get the most out of their visit to the Jurassic Coast and surrounding area. Our hosting style is to give a very warm welcome and make sure all questions are answered and then leave our guests to get on with their holiday in peace and quiet. That said, we are usually around to answer any questions as they arise along the way.

During your stay

We live full-time in the main house and often work from home. There is usually someone around if needed or if not, we can be contacted by text or mobile. However, we anticipate that guests will want their privacy and the apartment has been designed with this in mind. At certain times of the day some sound from the family may travel into the apartment but at night it is extremely quiet. The walls and ceiling have been sound-proofed (early 2017) to provide maximum privacy.

Regarding check-in times, it is set at 5pm at the moment because we have a new cleaning agency helping us out and this is the time they request. Sometimes it may be possible to allow an earlier time but we won't necessarily know until the afternoon of the same day.
