Gate House, a unique two-storey dwelling designed by internationally celebrated architect Brian MacKay-Lyons, is located near the entryway to Shobac Farm. Its Corten steel exterior projects a modern feel over the pastoral and architectural landscape, where Shobac Farm meets the LaHave Estuary. Accommodating up to 5 guests, Gate House is a cozy, fully equipped cottage providing a comfortable, relaxing and unique getaway for solo travelers, couples and small groups.

The space
The second level features one large bedroom with two queen beds, flat screen TV, south-facing views overlooking the Troop Barn, pastoral landscape and Hirtle’s Beach in the distance, as well as a full bathroom. The ground level features fully equipped galley kitchen, open living area with leather furniture, an extra sleeping nook, a STUV woodstove and a wide 24’ north-facing window overlooking the pastoral valley and grazing sheep. Interior steel elements connect with the exterior cladding to create a seamless inside-out transition, and the furnishings are an eclectic mix of new and old to reflect the modern and traditional dual personality of Gate House.

Where you’ll be

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada

Located in Upper Kingsburg, 20 kilometers from the Town of Lunenburg’s UNESCO Heritage District, Shobac Farm is truly a magical place in a secluded location ‘far from the maddening crowd’, and is home to a flock of sheep, two highland cattle, two large and friendly Leonbergers, gardens and gated pastures. Local sites and attractions include: Hirtle’s Beach - more than three kilometers of white sand, rolling surf, fresh sea air, drumlin cliffs, nearby freshwater lake and breathtaking views - a 15-minute walk from Shobac (also conveniently accessible by car and bicycle). Gaff Point – a seven-kilometer round-trip hiking trail within a protected Nature Preserve on a narrow peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean - visible from Shobac Farm and accessible by foot. Restaurants, cafés, bakeries and shops are a short drive or cycle away in nearby Rose Bay, LaHave and West Dublin (across the LaHave River), picturesque Lunenburg, and beyond.
